A win's a win

Post by Three of Diamonds »

I was a bit disappointed with the all round performance from management and team last night. Eastbourne are a poor, poor team yet we huffed and puffed and didn't really impose ourselves on them enough. Just like Cambridge away, we seemed intent on doing daft late fouls, and poor passes to each other and turned the ref against us. We must cut out these niggly things and concentrate on doing the basics right. I thought Cowan-Hall did a good job, until he started to play 30 yard backpasses to no-one, but we'll give him time to get a little coaching from the staff. What the hell happenned with the Farrell substitution? We warmed him up, then he spent a good 5 minutes standing there cooling down again, waiting for the board to be put up. I also thought that PC-H was out on his feet with 10 mins to go, seemed to be suffering cramp and we didn't take him off.

Joe Day - 7, pretty steady and a fine save in the first half, but needs to release it quicker to a full-back/ centre-half instead of punting it downfield
Osano - 6, hot and cold to extremes - some great crosses, some crap defending
Oshodi - 7, steady Eddie
Huke - 6, ok, nothing special, poor left foot
Day - 7, good effort will eventually be too good for this division
Power - 6, huffed and puffed with little effect going forward
Mills - 6, beavered away
Porter - 5, stuck at it, but again not enough threat going forward
Paris Cowan-Hall - 8, looks impressive for a youngster. Plenty of pace and inventive, nice lob for the goal
Gash - 6, had a go but too often out of position
O'Connor - 7, tried really hard to lift the team second half, good effort

agree with most although I thought O Connor was very poor as was Porter who has hardly had a decent game all season Gash had some nice touches but never seems to be in a goal scoring position ,hence rarely scores. I too thought it strange not to take off Cowan-Hall

I thought Cowan Hall was a breath of fresh air up front and made the rest of the forwards look pretty ordinary, how much longer have we got Gash for? It's like playing with ten men!

The loss of Gash after he went off was noticable in that we didn't hold the ball up anywhere near as well. He's not a goalscorer, but he wins a lot in the air and creates. Our problem is we're not taking advantage of this enough from him.

I would argue Curtis' performances this season (and it was evident yesterday for parts of the match) mean we are playing with ten men, not Gash!

Where were you watching from? I thought O'connor had a great game, Gash held the ball up well which was a pity as no-one was ever near him to help out. As for Porter not playing well all season, are you sure?
You're knocked out with who I am,
Look at you now, you're all in my hands.

Justin gives his reasons for keeping Paris on for the full game in this article - http://www.thediamondsfc.com/page/NewsD ... 83,00.html

at the end he says "if I do go back (to Scunthorpe)" meaning he might not go back - I know its really early to speculate or to say this but try get him at the end of the season?

Too early to speculate and it is still early days. He's on non contract terms there until the end of the season. How that works out in terms of transfers, I don't know.
