Free NUS Card for students
Following on from another topic, one thing raised was students not wanting to fork out on an NUS extra card. Fair enough, the thing is completely pointless and I didn't use mine when I was at Uni.
However, there is an NUS student card that is FREE and is valid ID. It's called Democracy card:

You need to check if your school/college offer this.

MD, if you honestly think that someone who isn't a fan will go through all that hassle just so they can come and watch us, you're wrong trust me!
It needs to be easy, simple & attractive.
I'm all up for inviting people and doing your bit, but there is NOTHING our age can do to honestly successfully make it appealing to our mates.

All you have to do is ask someone at your uni/college/school if they're signed up to it, fill out a form and get the damn thing free of charge. The only cost and effort involved is to ask and pick up a pen for five minutes.Oundle Diamond #2 wrote:MD, if you honestly think that someone who isn't a fan will go through all that hassle just so they can come and watch us, you're wrong trust me!

I'm not debating this to be difficult, I'm debating this because the issues I'm saying are fact. I'm genuinely saying that I know as a fellow student, this is unnecessary hassle. I know you older generation may see me saying that is ridiculous, but you don't know how lazy some us are.Mad Dog wrote:All you have to do is ask someone at your uni/college/school if they're signed up to it, fill out a form and get the damn thing free of charge. It should be a casual 'fancy coming to watch Rushden this weekend? At home?'
I shouldn't need to say, oh by the way unless you want to pay £17, you have to fill out this form and wait x amount of days for it to come.
Hmmm, its a tough one. If the owners could come up with a solution they'd go up very high in my estimations!

First things first, I'm 23 years old and fresh out of Uni in a full time job! ;) I know exactly what students are like, but it's time that we are started sorting ourselves out.Oundle Diamond #2 wrote:I'm not debating this to be difficult, I'm debating this because the issues I'm saying are fact. A student id isn't just useful for oue matches. Money off bus fees, other venues, even getting a student rail card if you need one make it very useful. They should really get one for that stuff alone.
I'm looking to see if there is anything else that could help. Let's put our heads together and find a solution.

Re: Free NUS Card for students
I'd suggest you pick up the phone on Monday morning, ring the Club and discuss it with them. I'm sure that between you you'll be able to find a solution that will allow you and your mates to come to the Southport or Luton games next week.
I'm sorry if that's a bit of a hassle for you but if you really want to help the Club, it surely has to be worth it.

Re: Free NUS Card for students
When i was 16/17 i remember being asked by the club to bring in any given school letter, that obviously had a date on it that proved that i was currently a student. Coupled with something that proved that I was who I say I was e.g passport, debit card, even an old connexions card if they still do them.
My school mates would never come to NP because it wasn't Man United or Chelsea they would be watching and they couldn't cope with that. OD, the fact that you've got people interested is pretty impressive, and you're right, they're never going to put any actual effort in to come down, and they certainly won't come back if they're charged 17 quid!

I suggest you form a focus group, brainstorm it, put a business plan together and present it to the club.
Maybe the club could start a database of this group of people and issue a simple "club card"?
