Replayed abandoned games
What is our record on replayed abandoned matches. From the few that I recall we always seem to have been in a strong position when the game was abandoned and come out on top when the game is replayed. Am I right?
Re: Replayed abandoned games
According to my records we have had 3 games abandoned, and seem to do quite well when the match is replayed. Let's hope the same happens at Grimsby, whenever it is rescheduled.
1) 19/04/95 Hillier Cup at Home v K*ttering. Winning 1-0 when a floodlight failure stopped the game. Drew the rearranged game 2-2 but lost on penalties after drawing the replay, also 2-2.
2) 26/12/95 Beazer Home Premier v Baldock Town (away). Don't know score when match was abandoned because of frost after 25 minutes. We won the rearranged match 3-0.
3) 22/09/98 Conference v Leek Town (away).Winning 1-0 when match was abandoned after 86 minutes because of a fire - no 70 minute rule then Not sure if it applies in senior football now although it does at junior level. We won the rearranged game 3-2.

Re: Replayed abandoned games
I remember the match against Baldock. A massive Boxing Day turn out from the Diamonds and every one stood in the bar expecting the game to be called off before it started. Even Tim Wooding who was playing right back at the time commented that it was a waste of time leaving the bar.
But against all odds the match kicked off and after the statutory 20 minutes had been played when i believe Baldock did not have to refund the gate money the game was abandoned.
Only one winner, the Baldock Town bank balance!

Ah, those good ol' days when players would have a drink with the fans before the game instead of after it! :lol:SCARECROW wrote:Even Tim Wooding who was playing right back at the time commented that it was a waste of time leaving the bar.
Or as well as after it, probably!
