Seriously, its not a wise business investment, so if you're looking for a massive return on your investment, steer well clear. But if you're looking to provide cash to help Justin develop a Championship winning squad next season or just want to own a little bit of the club (both damn good reasons in my opinion) then its raid your piggy banks time :D

can I ask why we don't all just give a donation instead? If there is no profit or gain then its just a charity surely?
Although I probably am missing something bigtime :D
The gain is that you own part of the club. Owning shares for your money is surely more attractive than just a donation for most people.

Effectively the whole thing is just a glorified donation, but there's nothing wrong in that. It's a little gimmick, but at the end of the day as a fan (or a business) you can say that you own a part of your local team and are helping buy its players, and that's a nice feeling. You may even get a certificate on your wall :D

When I get paid I'll get some, at the minute though I can barely afford to feed myself ;)

It's basically a glorified bucket collection under another name with the official penny going to buy a certificate, it should do well with those that want to donate to the clubs war funds without the tax man getting a share.

If it does come with a certificate then it would be a great thing for shops to hang up on their walls, showing they're contributing to their local club. I hope the Beasents market this well throughout the summer because I think it's a great idea, I'll certainly be buying some once I have the money.

Doesn't being a trust member amount to the same though?

No, because the Supporters Trust doesn't own the football club. The Trust may use its assets to help the club from time to time, but the football club and the Trust are two totally separate things.

The money raised by this share initiative has been promised directly to Justin for developing the team, in goes directly to the club for this purpose, whereas any money given to the Trust sits in their bank account (I'm not belittling what the Trust do, just trying to explain clearly the difference between the two).

I hope they do issue a share certificate, it'll hang nicely on my study wall next to my signed/framed Conference winning shirt :D

I'm not against the club trying to raise money but I think this is a poorly thought out, and badly explained idea that won't bring in more than a few hundred pounds. It reminds me of the total fiasco that was the recent lottery of the shirt sponsorship -(albeit previous owner). It seems quite clear that the current owners have no real finacial means of their own to sustain the club let alone invest in projects for the future and are desperately searching for any method to raise money in the short term to try to keep the ship afloat for another few months.

I've never been so depressed about the future prospects for R&D, and I sincerely hope I'm proven wrong, but I have a vey bad feeling about all of this.

So what do you propose as an idea? If you have an idea that will bring in the cash, share it on here and email it to the club. Otherwise stop shooting this down before it has begun. I bet you were opposed to the boxing night, which was a sell out and roaring success (and there's going to be another one btw).
