The midfield seems alright to me at the moment and does not really need a lot of change IMO, I hope we can get Gash on a permanent basis and hopefully a bit of pace up-front.
I feel our biggest problem this season has been at the back. We've shipped a lot of goals we shouldn't have done (even when Jamie Stuart was at the club). I do think we've got the pace up front if we can keep Charles (whose going to be a fantastic player for us if he continues to develop) and Azzer. I also agree about getting Gash.

That said, I do feel that we could add a bit more depth. Shariff's done well in the last few games, but it would not be fair on him to be thrown into the deep end. That's what will be great about the reserve league we will hopefully enter next year, it will allow him to gain match experience and develop against good opponents.

I do feel Paris Cowen Hall may be one to look at. He's had those injuries that have plagued him but he may be considered a gamble to get him back on track and help us out as well.

Another player, if there is any chance of getting hold of him, has to be Mark Byrne. We may have a chance since he knows the club, Justin, many in the squad and had a fantastic time here. It would also allow us to rotate if need be in the midfield, to freshen things up against different opponents.

I'm not sure Southend would let a prospect like PC-H go but that would be great if it did happen. Byrne would be a dream signing.

Lucky then that they don't have him. ;)

(I know you meant Scunthorpe. The thing is he's on non contract terms there until the end of the season and they'll be looking to shed a load of players. It depends upon if they're prepared to keep hold of him or try to retain some of their more established players).

By the looks of his injury record, that could work in our favour in terms of them releasing him and the possibility of him signing here.

With his injury record can we take the risk of signing him :?

The thing with Stevenson & Marks is we've no idea if they are out of contract, and we can offer them full-time football. Of course some footballers are happy being part-time with other jobs, and Braintree/Marks will be in BSP next season in all liklihood.

I know Southend were interested in Marks, but i've no idea about Stevenson. Edinburgh must have been impressed with him having scored 4 against us. It would be daft to not even enquire.

Of our current squad i'd keep:

Porter
Osano
O'Connor
Cowan-Hall
Day
Power
Corcoran
Smith
Johnson
Charles

Huke
Shariff
Gash
King
McDonald
Broadbent

Lets be honest though, these players haven't been getting paid and i was told today that this month isn't the first time this has happened. If they could get the same money elsewhere I can't understand why they would stay. I've highlighted the ones i think will stay given the circumstances.

Given the current situation with us, I think we'd struggle to get any kind of fee together if they aren't out of contract. However, if the share issue works well enough to create a transfer budget as it was aimed to, I think Stevenson would be a fans favourite to sign!

Is Gash out of contract at the end of the season? Or is it just likely he will be released?

No idea about his contract, but from what i've read he isn't exactly flavour of the month up there.

My point still stands though, facilities aside why on earth would he want to come here? Wage payments aren't guaranteed which must be a nightmare, and with the current squad and situation behind the scenes next season is only going to be a big struggle.

Agree, I'd still be surprised if a league club doesn't go for him, if he could hit double figures from midfield in a higher division that would still be a fantastic effort.
With regards to wages, I don't think we could compete with other Blue Square clubs for his signature (It pains me to mention luton as an example :|) but as well as a higher wage, you are much less likely to miss payment from the "bigger clubs" as they refer to themselves. I think we could struggle retaining players as well as signing them, these aren't premiership footballers, and have families to look after...
