Signatures...
We have been discussing recently (well, today actually ;) ) whether or not to disable signatures on the forum. We'll leave it up to you guys to decide.
Reasons to get rid of signatures:
1.) It will make the forum look neater.
2.) It will reduce the bandwidth, making it cheaper to view the forum from abroad or on mobile phones.
3.) It will speed up navigation on the forum, whether this will be significant or unnoticable I have no idea until we try.
Reasons to keep the signature:
1.) Makes the forum look brighter/colourful/interesting.
2.) Many people have tributes to Dale Roberts in their signatures, and these will inevitably go if the signatures are removed.

Re: Signatures...
As someone who suffered a big bill due to reading messages that had a users 2Mb signature (£3 per Mb in Europe meant it cost me £6 every time I viewed one of their posts) can I suggest a third option, which is to allow sensibly sized signatures (and avatars) as we used to do on RDFCNet. Those that want to display graphics just need the minimum technical ability to resize them to a sensible size. It's easy to check the size of your signature or avatar - right-click / properties.
A user can set their preferences to suppress avatars or signatures (or you can set errant users to have a "foe" status) - but these rely on you always being logged in - something that isn't always easy when accessing via a Mobile Phone browser.

You could have 140 years of no achievement, or twenty years of glorious victories, you decide.

Re: Signatures...
Although admittedly I was confused, animated avatars are almost certainly going to be outlawed if the signatures stay (as it looks like they will).wewantourdarbyback wrote: um... :?
We were going to send out PM's yesterday to those with animated avatars, but decided to wait on the result of this poll before doing so.

I like Formic's proposal - how about that as the compromise?
