Southern League Development

Post by Diamond Warrior »

I've not seen this anywhere yet. Apologies if it has been posted, but I thought it deserves it's own thread, which I haven't seen.

In addition, it was agreed that should it become necessary to accommodate Rushden & Diamonds FC they would be accommodated in the Southern League at Step 3 and that the competition would operate with 23 clubs in their Premier Divisions next season. Furthermore it should be noted that the club will need to satisfy a number of conditions before being accepted into the League.

On another note, I hope the Southern League has a decent sponsor if we do go into that division. I liked the sound of Zamaretto.

I posted it a few minutes ago on another thread but fair enough, it does deserve its own thread, very surprised they'd expand the league just to accomodate us!

You should note that the proposal is only for the Southern League to accomodate the current club if it does not get wound-up i.e. if it is saved by some form of investment. This is because (and I'm not 100% on the technicalities of the rules here) the FA would essentially be obliged to accept the club into a league at least 2 steps below the one from which it has been expelled.

That looks correct - I think it happened with Leigh RMI that they had to be accommodated and the NPL ran with an extra team.

Of course, assuming we believe what we've read in the press, the only option for the club to not get wound up is for an appeal to be reinstated to the BSBP to be successful.
