If they in some strange way had a desire to merge with us then for one they would have to pay our debts off first and then move into the lower league with us, I think that you will find that they have no desire to do either.

That's exactly what I'm saying, I'm just uncomfortable with the idea that Ladak would propose some sort of future name change, in order to try and fool R&D fans that it wasn't 100% K*ttering Town playing at Nene Park.

Well it would be 100% K*ttering Town apart from a name change, that way he loses 50% of his own fans and gains maybe 10 naive new ones.

In my opinion a name change doesn't change anything, the only way they could say/pretend it was a merger would be if they kept ours and k*ttering's history... even simple things such as having the No.1 shirt retired... Surely it's not a merger otherwise?

What does keeping a history mean? Do you mean like Milton Keynes pretending that they once beat Liverpool to win the FA Cup final?

I've been thinking about it a lot the last few days, what actually makes a football club, and I'm really not sure what it would take for me to think of a merger as my club... So to answer your question, I'm not really sure... :|

I like your thinking MD but I fear that the season's break would see the hardcore dissolve as they go and do new things.

I agree about the people that are happy just to see football, and therefore KTFC at Nene Park. They are wankers and I want to know what the point of them supporting RDFC was all these years if they're just going to kill one club and go to their rivals at the drop of a hat. It's ****ing stupid and I'd be embarrassed if I was them, I'd not be able to look at myself in the mirror and not be ashamed.

This might help, think of Man Utd merging with Man City calling themselves Great Manchester or something like that. A lot of Unites history has been about how they have won more and been more successful than City, a lot of City's history has been about how they were successful when United were relegated and how they consider themselves to be the real club who represents people from Manchester. Put the two together and all their history will say is, lets forget the past and think of the future because the past has become just too confusing.

Good point Coltrane. long and short of it, I guess, is that there would be too many disagreements if rivals merge, and probably do more harm than good...

If we merged the K*ttering fans would wear their shirts and we'd wear ours, well, the people that bothered turning up anyway.
