Surely we need to include both Rushden and Diamonds because that signifies that we're representing Rushden and Irthlingborough, which is what R&DFC did.

Definitely not this. I don't want some weird East Northants thing, it's too broad. It wouldn't feel like our's.

That and we're pretty doing what the Nene Park supporters want to do.

We need to keep the name as close of possible. FC Rushden & Diamonds is perfectly fine, as is AFC Rushden & Diamonds. It retains the links with Irthlingborough and Rushden (everything from the badge to the name is do with it).

From a media and greater footballing community perspective, we are actually widely known as 'Rushden' so from a brand perspective and getting attention it needs to remain. That's just happened. Similarly, within the fanbase, people shorten the name to Diamonds, and it is something we are known by as well, so it's got to stay.
Diamonds FC or FC Diamonds would not be allowed by the FA. FC United of Manchester wanted to be called FC United but was rejected as too generic.

We've supported a club called Rushden & Diamonds, so why change things and argue over just adding an A or moving FC to the front? I doubt many went around last year without shortening Rushden & Diamonds FC in conversations. Why is it an issue now? ;)

There was discussions around the name last night, if its of any use i formed a team a number of years ago that were registered with the Northants FA playing in the Northants Alliance League we were called Red Diamonds Football Club and went under the abbreviation of RDFC, if there is something political with using Rushden & Diamonds in any way shape or form, we could always use that as an example when talking to the FA. This was accepted by the Northants FA and the Alliance League.

Funny we played in a White Diamonds Strip (that i still have) or a Urawa "Red Diamonds" kit.

PM me if you need any further information.

The Red Diamonds, best team ever.

Let me talk you all through my goal where I picked the ball up on the half way line and went on a mazzy run through the other teams midfield and defence before rounding the keeper and sliding the ball into the empty net.

I scored another in the same season which came off my face.

Classic, I was better then Pele.

This is why I started the thread, because despite a club name sounding trivial it gives us a focus to move forward and we need a name to register anyway!! Personally I think most people call our club Rushden Diamonds anyway missing out the &.... So why not make it fc rushden diamonds, it keeps the main team name but has a clear change

If we were called AFC Diamonds wouldn't that raise a few eyebrows as to where the club is actually based, I mean a year down the line when we liquidate people won't remember Rushden & Diamonds anymore so surely AFC Rushden would be better suited?

Is the general consensus that AFC Rushden and Diamonds is "too much of a mouthful then"? Cos that way we keep OUR name, and everyone will still call us Rushden and Diamonds or just Rushden as before... I don't imagine the "AFC" will actually be said?

Don't get me started, 8.30 on a ****ing Sunday morning with no other traffic on the A45 doing 68 in a 60 zone, bastards!

My favorite memory though is not getting sent of by the ref because it was in injury time even though I had taken a swing at someone on the other team :D

Even though it was, 10 years ago?, I've still got the scare on my right foot from our first ever league game when someone went in two footage on me and split the side of my boot!

Willem II is named after a King - King William the second! It's not the second incarnation of a club called Willem!!

I think the last thing you should worry about is a name. You need first to work out a business plan (which includes finding sponsorship, planning revenue streams, organising events which keep the fans together as well as fundraising in preparation for next season, etc), arrange to register with Northants FA and the FA for next season (obeying all the injunctions that entails), find a ground to play in which would be acceptable to all levels of League officials, appoint suitably UEFA qualified and if necessary CRB'd coaches, organise open trials, find someone to scout out untapped talent, appoint a PR person, and engage the interest of the local Press.

Then start thinking of the name, the colours, the strip!

Although, if it were me, I think the ploy of putting "AFC" in front of the old name to indicate a phoenix club is a misunderstanding of why it was used in the first place - which was by Wimbledon fans anxious to differentiate the phoenix club from the one which became MK Dons and at that stage was still using the name Wimbledon FC. I think that format reached its apogee with the formation of the clumsily named AFC Telford United. There will be no other Rushden & Diamonds, so you don't need the AFC, actually. I would investigate whether or not the name is trademarked by Cousins or and if not, nick it back.

If it can't be used for legal reasons, think of another name which incorporates Diamonds somehow, but which is sufficiently different... Nene Valley Diamonds FC?
