New Phoenix Club Name? Official Vote Here!
New Phoenix Club Name? Official Vote Here!
I've taken a number of suggestions of names that people have posted up over the last few weeks. Please vote for your preferred name for the proposed new Phoenix club before Friday's meeting.
Please note we will also be having a show of hands during the meeting on Friday to ensure that all fans are consulted and get a chance to vote on the name. A large number of fans attending the meeting on Friday won't have access to this forum so we'll take the result from the forum vote and combine this with Friday's show of hands.
If you have any sensible other names not on this list please PM me and I'll add these to the poll.

Ok I've just added "Rushden New Diamonds FC" as someone PM'd me and it resets the poll so the 7 or so people that just voted could you please vote again. Sorry
I'm not going to add anymore otherwise it will just reset the poll again.

was the issue of ownership of the name with the ampersand - & - ever decided? If it belongs to the previous incarnation of the club would we have to go for "and"?

happy to go with the majority on this one, only because my suggestion of Rushden & Diamonds United isn't on the list

What about rushden diamonds? I saw it mentioned a few times on here and quite liked it.
No offence but it is a pretty terrible idea to name a club based on a poll on here . Who are you anyway? Who's put you in charge? For something that is pretty fundamental to the clubs future I can't believe it is being done like this.

If you re-read the original post it does say that there will be a vote at the meeting on Friday and it will be a combination of the two (dunno how they'll get round double voting). Besides that perhaps tech head is one of the leading movers trying to set up the new club? Come along on Friday and find out. How do you want it done, it's your club ? I'd have probably asked the people there to propose names, then ask for a vote.nick wrote:What about rushden diamonds? I saw it mentioned a few times on here and quite liked it.

Personally I voted FC Rushden & Diamonds (by the way none of my suggestions were there either, but that's ok so long as we have some choices).

I think it's a great way of getting a final choice on Friday, otherwise we will spend an hour talking about suggestions.nick wrote:What about rushden diamonds? I saw it mentioned a few times on here and quite liked it.

On the plus side I can keep all my old shirts and write "AFC" above the name (whilst crossing out the FC) ;)
Let's have a "design the badge" and "choose the shirt" compo at the same time, which we can all vote on at meetings as well

Re: New Phoenix Club Name? Official Vote Here!
I just think that AFC is clichéd, passé, and unimaginative. AFC's are ten-a-penny, let's be honest, and most people don't know what AFC actually stands for - they think they are just the obligatory initials of clubs formed by fans, and they aren't! All they mean is "Association Football Club" - like Bournemouth, or Leeds, or any other club in the north which want to make sure that everyone knows they aren't a bunch of egg-chasers!
Let's go for something which indicates BOTH the fact that we are a "phoenix", AND that we are direct successors to all that was good about R&DFC, but which is actually different - and which will make us stand out from the crowd, which we will have to do!
That's why I went for "Rushden New Diamonds"... think about it. The rhythm of the words is the same (try saying "Rushden and Diamonds" and then "Rushden New Diamonds", and you'll see what I mean), but it's sufficiently different to be noticed. On such marginal differences people get hooked.
Now imagine making phone calls to try and drum up revenue, sponsorship, local support...
Us: "Hello, it's Joe Bloggs here, I represent AFC Rushden & Diamonds..."
Them: "Rushden and Diamonds? That's Maxie's mob, ain't it?'"
Or
Us: "Hello, it's Joe Bloggs here, I represent Rushden New Diamonds..."
Them: "New Diamonds? What's new about them, then?"
And we're in!
Let's be imaginative, let's be different! CHANGE YOUR VOTE!!!

These MUST be competitions for local schools, that can drum interest in the towns and amongst local kids
