But nobody ever sang the "and" - or the "&" in that anyway, Dave... it was always sung as "Hi ho Rushden Diamonds".
It's like the "Take me home" song. It should never have been "Take me home, take me home" - sticking to the original words would have been ok until we got to the bits we had to change, and even so, we aren't going anywhere near "Nene Park, by the river" now so what are we going to sing anyway?

+1 Agree with all of that.Rankine's Nose wrote:To be honest I think Rushden New Diamonds is a tad tacky and cheesy, and the fundraising benefits of it are slightly exaggerated. Anyone who has a bit of football knowledge (or just an interest in the local area) will surely know that we've long since not been "Maxie's lot" - this will have become even clearer recently.
I voted AFC Rushden and Diamonds. Yes, it's just adding an 'A' and re-arranging the 'FC', but to me it's important that we remain as close to the original Diamonds as possible.

Actually, thinking more about that, when we do actually get going and have a team to watch somewhere else, someone ought to think about some words to the tune "By the Rivers of Babylon", since the original is all about being in exile...
just in case someone wants the original words as a template, you need to look at Psalm 137, but I don't recommend using verses 7 and 8 as any kind of example of what we think of Poppies fans!

I saw Espanyol play Tenerife in 2001, and the Espanyol fans sang a version of Boney M's Rivers of Babylon. My Spanish isn't good enough to work out what all the words were, but I remember "of Babylon" was replaced with "fantástico" (which I do know is Spanish for 'fantastic' ;) ). It sounded really good as a football song, and I thought at the time we should use it at R&D.Red Dragon wrote:Actually, thinking more about that, when we do actually get going and have a team to watch somewhere else, someone ought to think about some words to the tune "By the Rivers of Babylon", since the original is all about being in exile...

Does "Rushden New Diamonds" sound decidedly Welsh to anyone else or is it just me?
Puts me in mind of The New Saints and Newi Cefn Druids.

Until the awkward moment when the kid designed badges are all awful and you're stuck with 1 of them for a long timeEveryweeker wrote:Design the badge, design the shirt -Two of Diamonds wrote:On the plus side I can keep all my old shirts and write "AFC" above the name (whilst crossing out the FC) ;)
Let's have a "design the badge" and "choose the shirt" compo at the same time, which we can all vote on at meetings as well
These MUST be competitions for local schools, that can drum interest in the towns and amongst local kids
