Evening Telegraph

Post by bozzer »

I have a meeting with the ET this week, so as a group of fans is there anything you think the ET could do or even we could do with the ET to promote the club.

i don't see the point in having an ET bashing/Mark Lea bashing thread, so particularly any pro active ideas would be very much welcomed.

The ET have a very important role to play particularly with people who are not online so it would be good to go with some ideas.

If you would rather PM me with anything feel free.

I don't buy the ET as I read it online but, looking for something else, I did buy it yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to see a match report from Thursday night, complete with a colour picture and an up-to-date league table, on page 50. The only thing that was missing was a list of our next fixtures - that would certainly be useful to our supporters who do not have access to the internet as was commented on yesterday.

They should have a 'free entry' cut out, to any game of your choice. Maybe that will bring a few more people along. (maybe it's already free, I haven't been to a game...)

i've nothing against their coverage of us, providing ml doesn't have a hand it in. whenever he was away and jim lyons did our reports, they were so much better. concentrating on what happened, throughout the 90mins. not 3/4 of the report slagging us off or being negative.

Having had experience of local newspapers in a minority sport situation (which unpleasant as it may be U18 football is viewed as) with the Rockingham Rebels years ago I always found that the more you did for them, the more they published. So to paraphrase JFK ask not what your local rag can do for you but what you can do for your local rag

Exactly right, they have certainly done much more as we have got better at giving them things.

I have a few ideas how we can do more so just wanted to gather other ideas

Of course you are right re Under 18's however we are in a unique situation where we are the 2nd biggest supported club in their catchment area so there is a bigger community interest than normal.
I also think it's a good news story, which is often a rarity!!

Agreed, what would be good would be a young, hungry journalist who could see this as a stepping stone to a better job.

Going off on a tangent, have you tried contacting fourfourtwo magazine, they often do pieces with clubs lower down the ladder where there's something a bit different going on.

Agreed, I've noticed Marc Blazely (I think that's his name, correct me if I'm wrong) has been doing the majority of our match reports for the under 18s in the herald & post.

Couldn't he be our match reporter for the future, or indeed Jim Lyons, if he's still around?

Good idea re 442, actually Dave has been doing our match reports and has been doing a cracking job too, so they have mostly been using those.

I'm glad you mentioned that about Dave, his match reports are terrific and I think people underestimate just how hard it is to do.
