Decision day for Chester?

Post by Three of Diamonds »

Here's a link to the tables if they're booted out. Personally I think the clubs might just vote to keep them (and keep their points!)
Will they "do a Weymouth?"

Look at Cambridge if it was to happen, only goal difference would then keep them out of the relegation zone!

Not to keen on only being a point ahead of K*ttering if it was to happen, chances are they'd be above us when we come to play them on the 27th with a game midweek, makes the derby even bigger knowing that it's not just local pride that's at stake.

So I presume each club will decide based on how they stand to fair from the points deductions should Chester go? Seems a bit pointless.

Yes, and as a result you would assume that they stand a better chance of survival at this stage of the season, as clubs will not want to lose out. If it had been earlier on, then clubs would be more likely to throw them out, as fewer teams would lose points, and those that did would only lose 1 or 3, rather than 6! We shall see though! A decision needs to be made on way or the other, asap.

How ironic that Chester have been charged with "bringing the competition into disrepute", when surely the Football Conference board are guilty of the exact same offence, at least, for breaking their own rules and allowing Chester into the league to begin with?

If (or more likely, when) Chester are expelled from the league, will we have valid grounds to demand compensation from the Conference board for the thousands of pounds we would have taken in gate receipts from the game which will probably not go ahead? Or worse still; if, at the end of the season we miss out on the play offs and a shot at promotion back to the Football League by 1 point to Luton Town (who will only lose 2 points compared to our 3 if Chester are expelled), will we then be entitled to damages for the loss of income from, through no fault of our own, missing out on a bumper crowd for a play off semi-final, not to mention the possibility of a Wembley final payout, and maybe even promotion to 'promised land' and the associated financial windfall?

The Football Conference board knew the situation with Chester before they were accepted into the league, and as such are equally at fault for the mess the Blue Square Premier league currently finds itself in. Will they be held accountable though? (I think we can all predict the answer to that one  )

Great post Dave, couldn't agree more! I am not sure where i heard this, so may well be wrong, but i believe there was a great deal of pressure on the Conference to accept Chester from the Football League, though quite what it had to do with them i am not sure! I think it is a shame that such a proud club could be treated so badly, and fall from grace quite so spectacularly, but i honestly wonder why we are this situation. We all knew what was going to happen, there were enough warning signs. If the conference had decided not to have allowed Chester in, they would have invariably gone bust. However, by allowing them in, they have not stopped that, they have merely delayed it, and as you say, created a headache later in the season where teams such as ourselves, are being penalised by the rather dodgy fixture arrangements in the first place!

Imo, if the conference had not allowed Chester in, they would have done the right thing. This would have given the fans etc enough time, although i hear that they have still used the season well, to form AFC Chester or whatever they want to be called, and get themselves along the process of starting again! I'm sure that is what 90% of the Chester fans want, as there really is no way out for Chester CIty in its current format.
