OLNEY MATCH POSTPONED

Post by davealbon »

Unfortunately, Thursday's game against Olney Town has been postponed.

However, the Irchester United friendly, which fell foul of the weather last week, has been rescheduled for next Thursday, 16th February (weather permitting).

Pity, unfortunately it will be virtually impossible to play evening matches until there is a big rise in temperature.

I've been saying for years that evening mid week matches for non-league clubs during the period December to February should never be scheduled in the pre-season fixture lists. We've all witnessed poor crowds due to low evening temperatures, clashes with televised live matches, difficulties for away fans travelling etc. resulting in unnecessary fixture pile ups in April.
When will the penny drop with the authorities and clubs?

Assuming you mean a winter break rather than a winter beak ( ), it would never work in this country IMO. You've got December, January and February where it is conceivable that games could be called off due to low temperatures. Which one do you pick? You know what would happen, you'd miss a whole playable month like January this year and then return for an unplayable one - as February is shaping up to be.

Hopefully it's starting to change in youth football, rather than have kids risk their chances of becoming parents in the future and casulaty being full of kids with broken toes from kicking a rock hard ball there are proposals to run two seasons for kids.

You could have 140 years of no achievement, or twenty years of glorious victories, you decide.
