You are correct that a singular noun takes a singular verb but here it is a case of wishing or desiring which takes the subjunctive tense so 'were' is technically correct. As a retired English teacher who taught several of the people who post on here I have to try to keep up standards! By the way Pigman is asking for volunteers to do odd jobs. Perhaps you might wish to go back to seat cleaning now your old adversary is not there to supervise your efforts! A new start with a new team in a new ground - looking forward to it.
Cotty, I think I know who you are and without being picky (who me??? ) I have stated several times that I can only pop down very rarely in the evenings as although I still have the same employer the actual job has changed meaning I hardly ever see my mansion let alone have time to clean seats. Although I will try to make every effort wherever I can to help out.
If Diamondsmatt15 is who I think he is, he is a really nice lad and I don't think he would've taken offence at my correction. It was tongue in cheek.
You're knocked out with who I am,
Look at you now, you're all in my hands.
I see Rolls is using a familiar tactic to ensure the CVA is approved, given his comment to the BBC - ""With money owed to myself and Ritchie Jeune, and a few other creditors we know will vote yes to the CVA already, we know there's over the 75% needed.""
The CVA was always going to be a stitch up. What will be the reaction of local businesses who lose out remains to be seen. If I was losing money through this arrangement then there is absolutely no way I would entertain doing further business with KTFC.

Surely this sort of approach can't sit well with the decent KTFC fans?
I think you've answered your own question there Formic. ;) I haven't read one comment from their fans that speaks badly of the CVA, it's all about a new start and how the debts aren't George's so he doesn't have to pay all of them.

Added to any company's reluctance to supply KTFC in future will be the certain fact that any companies which do decide to trade with them will only do so in exchange for payment in advance - the withdrawal of credit facilities to a company following entry into a CVA always being the biggest handicap faced by anyone using a CVA to escape their debts.
Poppynetters may think the club's problems end with a CVA when, in fact, a whole new series of problems are just beginning.
Could one of the creditors halt this whole "process" by issuing a winding-up order prior to the approval of the CVA? I seem to remember with the R&DFC situation something like that was the case.
I disagree with any football club even the Diamonds getting rid of their debt via Administration or a CVA and then running up a fresh tab or even just splashing budgets around of £20,000 a month on a playing squad. I feel local suppliers have probably had their hands burnt twice by the Diamonds and now the Poppies.
Any hope the Poppies have of building up support in an "foreign land" where the local team was their rival will all but go if they enter a CVA which hurts local businesses.
Surely no-one seriously believes that Rolls will splurge £20k a month on the playing budget?
That has to be the big, fat, lying carrot, dangled in front of the dumb plops noses to encourage them to part with season ticket and pay on the gate monies, plus it may draw in some sponsors on the basis of the success that sort of budget would virtually guarantee at the level they will be playing.
What is it they say on t'interweb blogs and forums? ROTFPMSL......
