AFC u16's (Community Team) vs Rushden & Higham u16's 12/8/12

AFC Rushden & Diamonds u16's 0 - 5 Rushden & Higham u16's

Diamonds eventually went down by a 5 goal score line which didn't really do our lads justice.

After a very bright opening 25 mins from the young Diamonds, a stone wall penalty was turned down and the end result was R&H going straight up the other end to take a 1-0 lead. We were never really outclassed by a team that finished 2nd in the league last year and are a league above us, but some silly errors led to avoidable goals and some lack of match fitness failed to help the situation with 2 of their goals coming late on.

However, it was a good run out against a strong side, and if we can cut down on the errors we will have a brilliant season. Again, we were never outclassed against a team a division above us. Looking forward to the start of the season.

I watched the whole game and agree totally with Rob.
The R/Higham side have the combined best players from last season`s R/H side and K*ttering Generals and I would expect them to waltz the Weetabix Division One.
Therefore it was encouraging to see the `community` side equal the hosts for large chunks of the game.
Indeed, at least three of the goals fell in the `unfortunate` category - one when a foul should have been given at the opposite end of the pitch - an own goal and a keeper slip.
Nice as well to see quite a few watching the game.
