AFC Diamonds u16s 5 v 1 Weekley Rovers

Post by himynameisrob »

A dominant performance in difficult blustery conditions saw Diamonds run out 5-1 winners against Weekley Rovers. The game got off to a cagey start with both teams struggling to get a grip on the game. After 10mins Diamonds started to take control and after a great run and cross down the right wing, Callum Monaghan crossed for his fellow winger Chris Newman to tap in at the far post. With Weekley barely making any inroads in to the Diamonds defence Rhys Day doubled the score line on 20mins with a header. Rhys then doubled his tally on 30mins with a powerful finish from 10 yards in to the top left hand corner.

With Diamonds starting the 2nd half three goals to the good and looking very comfortable, it came as a surprise when Weekley scored with a touch of good fortune. A run down the wing resulted in the wind catching hold of the cross and looping straight over our make-shift keeper Jamie Pedlar to go in off the back post. This was all but a minor blip as Weekley barely registered another shot for the rest of the game, and it was left for substitute Dave Brazier to add a 4th goal after a great run from Connor Hislop and a stunning volley from 25 yards from man of the match Harry Underwood to complete a comfortable victory.

2 games, 2 wins, 9 goals and 1 conceded (unluckily) bodes well for the season. Next game is away to Desborough Town on Sunday 23rd.
