AFC collection for Wellingborough Whitworths FC presented

Post by Dazzler »

Yesterday Glenis and I went along to watch Wellingborough Whitworths FC v Rothwell Corinthians.

Before the game started on behalf of the AFC Fans, I presented the Whitworths Chairman and one of the assistants, with £150 we raised from the bucket collection the other week. [We'll hopefully get a copy of the picture they took in due course].

So many thanks again to all the fans for contributing to that collection. It was very gratefully received by Whitworths Club, as they plan their rebuild after the fire that totally destroyed their clubhouse.

The game itself was the proverbial game of 2 halves, Whitworths 3-0 up at half time (and could have been 5 up, but for some bad shooting and a few good saves by our very own Ash Foulger in goal for Rothwell). Whitworth's didn't really get going again in the 2nd half, and although I did't see any Ferguson's in the crowd watching, Rothwell pulled it back to 3-3 in about the 6th minute of extra time (not sure where all that time came from), and the game finally finished at about 5pm.

Yes, my thoughts exactly when I was leaving the ground on Tuesday night. I certainly won't be giving them anything ever again and will seriously consider whether to go when we play there. The thought of handing them any money is pretty off putting at the moment.

Steve mentioned on the other thread that there were decent blokes running Whitworths. If they had any decency they would take responsibility for the actions of their reserve team players. They should be the ones sorting it out and should be apologising for their behaviour. It seems to me that there wouldn't have been a problem if it weren't for one or two dickheads who lead the others. They should be asking themselves if they really want people like that representing their club.

Do they even believe that the behaviour of these people was unacceptable ?

This from their Club Sec on Facebook:
Great game last night, good advert for UCL Division 1 teams. On the Diamonds own forum page their is praise for the Whitworths support & their banter although their comments do change later at night. As club secretary, i apologise if any comments were made about Dale, but i was standing near the stand and did not hear his name mentioned once,i would like to think that the comments from some of the people in the stand about how they were chanting at your keeper last night are true, although i can see why Diamonds fans thought they were about Dale because Number 1 was apparently mentioned. Ref was poor, but expected that as we have never got anything out of a game that he has reffed at any age group for us! None of the officials saw the alleged elbow because if they did he should have been sent off, they just went on what they were told by Diamonds players. Let's hope that the game on Saturday 22nd September in the Junior Cup is just as good as last nights and the banter remains friendly & funny.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

Some secretary he is, can't even get the date correct of the next match with Whitworths. Let's hope they all turn up on the 22nd! :D
