Main reason for the pitch being flooded today is due as PaulK mentioned, to the position of the pitch on the flood plane, and the fact that the Environment Agency had to open up the sluice gates upstream of Wellingborough to try and clear the upper levels ahead of the next batch of rain coming later today.

As everyone knows the D&D is well within the flood zone, per image here.

Heavy rainfall during Wednesday and Thursday night has caused levels in the River Nene to rise significantly. The Northampton Washland Flood Storage Reservoir reached full capacity on Thursday, causing flooding to low lying land, caravan parks and properties downstream. There is more rain forecast over the weekend and into next week, so we are closely monitoring the situation.
