A word about the bar.

Post by ChorltonV »

Why were so few of us drinking in the bar last night. We walked into the scout hut took one look at the decanted bottles of warm "Larger!" for £2.50 a pop and said "no thanks", promptly walked into the posh bar next door and had a much nicer pint of beer pulled on draught.

I've already posted on the match thread that it was a pity that our fans were 'relegated' to the scout hut and positively encouraged to use this facility. I was one of the first there, in fact, the 'bar' wasn't even manned at the time and we could have served ourselves. ;) However, with the predicted away support I guess that the Sileby committee took the sensible view that they wouldn't cope in their main club house and that is unstandable bearing in mind the scout hut was heaving. I would have preferred a nice hand drawn pint of cask ale like you Chorlton, but hey ho I was really happy to be there just for the football and actually enjoyed my bottle of Speckled Hen which should not be served chilled in any event.

I personally do not blame the Sileby Club committe for their match arrangements and really enjoyed my visit to Fernie Fields.

Sileby had a large group of sponsors in the main bar, hence the reason for directing supporters into the scout hut to begin with. I think they soon realised that it wasn't feasible to keep us all in there, so then allowed fans into the main bar as well.

By "large group", I take it you mean the 6 people sat around the table in the corner? Personally, I think there was ample room in the main bar and what it actually amounted to was a "them and us" policy. I got a sense of overwhelming arrogance and snobbery about the place, and I'm glad we beat them.

Agreed. The stewards said we couldn't go in there despite it being virtually empty. Looked more like a private gathering of the high and mighty who didn't want to share the space with us plebs.

I wondered if it was just me, but they weren't too keen on me and my lad going up to the training area to watch the team warm up, something we do every match, I almost had to pull the "do you know who I am line"

He's probably still recovering from delivery all those presents a couple of months ago.

They've probably got a very expensive carpet in their club house that they didn't want a load of ruffians from Rushden walking on in their out door shoes. :D

I had to admire how he tried his best to avoid making eye contact with the people he was serving...
