I didn't think a pitch cover would be practical, but thought I'd ask!!Basil wrote:We shouldn't spent that money on the fence, we should of got a giant umbrella insteadThe Godfather wrote:I wouldn't bother at this level of football.diamondgeezer1 wrote:Would it be worth us and W'Boro investing in a pitch cover? or would the cost prove too much?

Did some research and a pitch cover would cost over £27,000... which would be about £14,000 each, so a non starter in my opinion.

Pitch cover wouldn't work. Covering the pitch area might prevent direct rainfall but the ground would act a sponge absorbing water from surrounding area, Whitworths pitch etc, and still be waterlogged. That's how a water table operates. Covers are only used for snow and frost precautions.diamondgeezer1 wrote:

They covered Cheltenham racecourse for several days before the start of the meeting, as a frost precaution, last week and after only an hour of rain the other day the course was very soft and heavy.
What we need is a respite from rain, a bit of sun and the return of traditional March drying winds. Then the pitch will be rock hard in April and like a dust bowl!

Thank god we only have 36 games otherwise it could have been quite a backlog. Though I doubt it would have ever been as bad as Guernsey's backlog

And the problem with being off the mainland in a part time league (along with a vase run) is that of course the teams can't travel midweek, so they've got 4 weekends where they play Friday, Saturday, Sunday

It's a shame we couldn't have switched todays game to Whitworths but I expect their pitch is in the same condition as ours?

Less than half the game in Conf South have survived with Newport and Northampton's game off in Higher divsions. Our pitch had no chance today.

Corby Town's game is on but they were appealing for fans to bring forks to assist in getting the game on. With overnight rain expected it will be interesting to see if the Ploppies match tomorrow afternoon at Steel Park will be on.

I doubt it, the pitch won't hold up today very well and it will just been a mud bath by tomorrowTrek wrote:Corby Town's game is on but they were appealing for fans to bring forks to assist in getting the game on.
