Player Of The Season....

Post by BartonRaz »

Who have people gone for then?

Don't know what others think but for me it's between two - Sam Brown and Sean McBride. I went for Sam on the basis that he's played consistently well throughout the entire season, whereas it took Sean a couple of months to get to the level he's been at since.

I suspect Alfie, Hopey, Jake and Wizz will pick up a few votes, maybe Deaks too.

Sean for me.

I would guess that Rob (Bob's Bitch) is not going for Quincy

I think one of my lads went for Jake Gillingwater. He was thinking about voting for Wizz but then decided he couldn't spell Wiznewski.

I had a sneaky look at some of the voting slips on Saturday, and the first 6 I pulled out were all for different players! I think it's going to be a very close contest.

My vote went to Séan. It did take him a few games to get going (not as long as 2 months though) but once he did he has been a Man of the Match contender for almost every game. We have got strength in depth throughout the squad now, so if a player is unavailable there is always a good player waiting to cover for them, but I think Séan has been the most difficult player to replace when he's been unavailable. Kingy and Brad have done well, but neither of them has the energy and tenacity that Séan does.

I didn't think he hit top form until the R&H away game in early October personally, but can't argue with his form since.

I think I realised we'd found a gem in the second half of the Olney game. He'd had a pretty poor first half, but really started dominating play in the second - although I do agree that the R&H game was one of his best performances of the season.

There are certainly a lot of candidates for the award - the fact we've had a different player winning the player of the month award each month suggests that - and then you have to add the consistent players like Hope, Gillingwater and Gearing who haven't picked up that award. As I mentioned on another thread, pretty much all the players who made a reasonable number of starts have picked up at least one Man of the Match award too.

Sean McBride for me. Plenty of other worthy candidates.

Difficult one for me, we've seen some great team and individual performances, but only a few have been consistently in the team and consistently performing throughout the season, but Sean McBride is one that has and while I haven't definitely decided, I think I'll vote for him, much like many football fans, I love to see a player who works that hard.

Shame about Alfie's injury and his mixed form since, he was on his way to have probably been clear favourite to get POTS with his early season form, though if he can stay injury free next season, I think we could see at least 30 goals from him and possibly Jake as well.
