DId anyone see the chase tonight? They had the question
Paul Gascoigne managed which football club for 39 days in 2005?
A. K*ttering Town
B. Rushden and Diamonds
C. Wycombe Wanderers
The female contestant guessed Wycombe Wanderers, as she couldn't decide between them and K*ttering Town, she even said she has never even heard of Rushden and Diamonds
The chaser went for K*ttering Town, but he knew the team started with i K and thought it was Kidderminster Harriers, until they didn't come up as one of the answers...
I didn't think many outside of Northants would have heard of us anyway.
Rushden doesn't seem to be acknowledged on signposts outside of the county, which is why many people didn't know where Nene Park was situated!
I'm sure I read somewhere that during either WW1 or WW2 maybe both, we were a base for weapons etc....so weren't added to signposts to avoid enemy detection.
Of course I could be talking a load of rubbish, but I'm sure I read the above somewhere!!!!!

I'd say most English football fans will have heard of the name 'Rushden & Diamonds', we certainly made quite a name for ourselves in our glory years what with the Leeds game and the promotions and people at uni who I know who live in the north west and support premiership teams said they'd heard of us as well.
And you may be right, but Rushden's hardly big enough to be on signs outside of the county anyway, signs are far more likely to display Northampton or K*ttering I'd have thought.
That chap at Cardiff hadn't heard of us, remember those rushton and diamonds scarves he was selling outside the millennium stadium - collectors items I'd say !!
Raising awareness of Motor Neurone Disease RIP Dale Roberts - gone, but never forgotten!!
I once contacted the AA - automobiles not alcoholics - to ask why Rushden did not appear on the route planners on the front pages of their road maps although K*ttering was included. (Yes I know that shows I've too much time on my hands) I was told that they only include towns that are at the junction of two major A roads, so that may be why no-one can find us!

I went to a delivery in Airdree once and they had heard of us. They took a few photos of the flag as they are also called the Diamonds
You're knocked out with who I am,
Look at you now, you're all in my hands.
Didn't one of our old supporters - Scott? - also support Airdrie, back home in Scotland (a Scot called Scott! Who knew?)?
I think it was him who told me that they were called the Diamonds, but that was before they merged with someone and became Airdrie United, or something... in which case, are they still called The Diamonds, post-merger?
