I wonder if the old Norwegian supporters club are thinking of reforming after the emergence of AFC!?

Even outside, both Rushden - Leeds games were even broadcast on American television, if Heggs doesn't score in front of all the Diamonds fans and I don't see everyone going crazy I wouldn't be making this post !!Olly wrote:diamondgeezer1 wrote:I'd say most English football fans will have heard of the name 'Rushden & Diamonds', we certainly made quite a name for ourselves in our glory years what with the Leeds game and the promotions and people at uni who I know who live in the north west and support premiership teams said they'd heard of us as well.

They're still called The Diamonds, but on that point, they didn't really merge with Clydebank. Could be wrong on this but I thought that Airdrie went bust, Clydebank were going bust, so somebody 'bought' Clydebank and renamed them Airdrie United so as to take their league registration. Officially Airdrie United are a continuation of Clydebank. Anyway, that left a free space in the Scottish Football League which was taken my Gretna.Red Dragon wrote:Didn't one of our old supporters - Scott? - also support Airdrie, back home in Scotland (a Scot called Scott! Who knew?)?
I think it was him who told me that they were called the Diamonds, but that was before they merged with someone and became Airdrie United, or something... in which case, are they still called The Diamonds, post-merger?
Outrageous really, don't think i've heard of a story like that before or since, I think the closest you could get to it would be the MK Dons/Wimbledon saga although comparisons with that are few and far between.

It's surprising the number of people who I meet who still ask if we are "in the league."! It's also amazing that the same people ask the next time I see them how dagenham are doing!!

On Eggheads recently they had a team called the Diamonds who were all from Airdrie.

Another experience of being confused for Dagenham, despite repeatedly pointing out our name!
Also, even fans of other football league clubs (Forest, Leicester) seem to ask if we are still in the 92. Weird, do they not look any further than their own noses?
