Car park attendant/warden

Post by rushdenshireelite »

I had the pleasure of the match day car park warden for the retail park popping into work this morning so I took the opportunity to ask him a few questions as to what he can and can't do! The big things are if he can visibly see you walking across in a diamonds shirt and seeing what car you were from, if you leave a bag on the front seat from one of the shops they can't do anything!

I'm not sure how heavily they can inforce the fines etc but this is just more of a heads up!!

Any fines are unenforceable, only the police and traffic wardens are able to hand out fines. This car park companies hand out a breach of contract notices, which if you ignore them will go away, no one, and I mean no one in this country has ever been prosecuted for these "fines" ever, and by prosecuted I mean taken to court for breach of contract.

Thats said they are our neighbours.

There are plenty of parking spaces within a 5-10 minute walk. No need to upset B & Q, our neighbours, who incidentally have a massive "Diamonds" banner outside their store.!

I usually park in Dennington Road for midweek matches as there are no restrictions after 6pm.

For Saturday matches I use the Homebase car park which has no published restrictions at all.

At Tesco you have three hours if you use their store, they have no published restrictions such as at B & Q saying you must not leave the car park.

Exactly what I was told after the PA announcement.

I think we need to be respectful of our neighbours and mindful of their needs at all times, I'm sure a blind eye will be turned on Tuesday evenings, but Saturday's everyone should respect the fact that they pay their business rates and the car park is theirs - we could be peeing off a lot of potential sponsors if our fans aren't respectful of their needs.

My first choice when parking is on the road outside the ground. If there's no space there I head for the embankment car park. I've been to all but 2 home fixtures at the D&D and i've never had to seek an alternative to those two.

Frankly I am surprised that the police haven't clamped down on the parking on the road. There is enough room, but there are so many people parking illegally (not saying you are BR, just saying there are a lot that do!). I've rarely had a problem in the Dennington Road estate, and am very grateful to the businesses that have kindly allowed us to do so.

It isn't illegal to park a car anywhere that is not marked up as no parking if the car has valid tax and insurance. I park mine there, and will continue to do so. As for B n Q, I was in the shop at the final whistle yesterday and was worried that some over zealous halfwit would ticket me as I have a sticker on my car. I wasn't at the game but I was leaving the car park at about 5 which looked suspicious.

Nope, but it is illegal to park within 10 yards (I believe, although more likely metres) of a junction ;)
