Lots of reasons, as already said Mark has school age children, one approaching crucial exam time. There could be restrictions on holidays taken at work for him and his wife.RiK2006 wrote:I know it's only UCL and they're not millionaires but really who organises a holiday for the first game of the season... Did anyone else hear the Deeping managers motivational dance and song? Lol

Jeez, for all mark done last season I'm sure he deserves a holiday!! You seemed to have answered your own negative comment :roll:RiK2006 wrote:I know it's only UCL and they're not millionaires but really who organises a holiday for the first game of the season... Maybe he had a good reason for it.

Just to echo what everyone has said, well played lads on the first game. Fair play to dunk who carried on after a nasty head injury. Whiz was immense..
Only Jamal had a nervy few touches in my opinion, I was stood next to the dugout and at one point peaks was shouting for a foul on Clarke, to me it looked like he misjudged the flight of the ball as it bounced over his head. Think he would work better with parky next to him.
All in all a great afternoon, good bbq. One slight niggle was the fact that come 2oclock the refreshment bar wasn't open in the ground, I had to get a blue ticket to go out the ground back to the clubhouse. Woman outside said she was the one opening but didn't have time due to crowd control at the turnstiles. Sounds to me like they didn't anticipate the big crowd who attended

A good performance for the first game of the season, I thought we stormed out of the blocks in both halves. The two centre halves did look a bit shaky at times, and this was Clarkey's league debut for us so perhaps had a few nerves? We do need someone experienced by his side to talk him through any games like that, but at 21 he's a great prospect. The middle of midfield looked a little defensive at times, allowing Rangers time to pick up a lot of 2nd balls, but they were great around our own box. Plenty of effort and committment from Brad and Sean, just what we needed as Deeping were a good side. Wizz was brilliant and Dunk grew into the game second half, putting in some quality crosses. Lots of contenders for MoM, but for me Wizz had the edge

It is worth noting that of the back five that started yesterday Crossy is the elder statesman at 25 and none of the outfield players are over 22. They are all babies

I am sure Noddy or Formic will correct me, but according to my records, Sean McBride now stands alone as our all-time appearance leader after yesterday.
He was tied with Jake Newman and Chris Hope on 37, but now is on top of the mountain ;)
I have him down as 32 league and 6 cup appearances. On his way to Diamonds immortality ;)

Re: [ Sat 10th Aug ] v Deeping Rangers, KO 3pm UCLP AWAY
As for the game yesterday, I was really impressed with how 'joined up' we were going forward. There was little need for 'pulling the trigger' - something that let us down a lot last season - because we were working the ball effectively into positions where it could be placed into the net. I'm looking forward to seeing all three goals on video, but both Jack's and Alfie's seemed to be excellent and controlled finishes.
Having not seen any pre-season games bar the young side that played against 1874 Northwich, I thought it took Dunkley a while to get into the game, but he really impressed me as the game wore on. Those crosses were inch perfect, and it was great to see Faz finish one off. He also seemed very aware of team mates, and brought them into play very well indeed. Last season, neither Alfie or Jake held the ball up very well at times, and Dunks makes a big impression in this area.
Not sure how at fault Cross was with the first goal, or Clarke, but echo the comments on here about the age of the defense and the need to bed in. Hopefully Tuesday gives the chance for a boost of confidence.
All in all, thoroughly delighted with a well deserved win.
Oh, and their number 12 was a complete clown, whinged from the moment he came on.

I love my stats too and don't know who (think its Formic) that does the stats online which are greatEveryweeker wrote:I am sure Noddy or Formic will correct me, but according to my records, Sean McBride now stands alone as our all-time appearance leader after yesterday.

Would be possible to do a All Time Top 10 section where we can keep track. I was thinking maybe top 10 appearances and top 10 goal scorers so we can keep track season after season, I think the goals one will be interesting with all these strikers coming in. At the moment Jake Newman is our all time leading goal scorer but I'm sure it wont be long until Alfie puts that right ;)

I only update the individual player profile stats - http://www.afcdiamonds.com/player_profiles - you'll notice they are rolling on this season. Those of you that like to look at stats offline and who bought the 2012/13 Season Review booklet from the club shop will see the appearances from last season (and a lot more) on the inside of the back page - and I notice that Wizz and Sam have now drawn level with Hope and Newman - one behind Séan. It also looks like Séan has caught Chris Hope up on the total minutes played - again you can see those totals in the 2012/13 season review booklet - there will be copies in the club shop on Tuesday.sandringhamdiamond wrote:I love my stats too and don't know who (think its Formic) that does the stats online which are greatEveryweeker wrote:I am sure Noddy or Formic will correct me, but according to my records, Sean McBride now stands alone as our all-time appearance leader after yesterday.

(On the inside of the front cover there is a similar summary, but just of League games)

Tommy Treacher, big 'cheese' from Holbeach's title winning team. I'm surprised Man Ure didn't sign him to replace Rooney.Everyweeker wrote:
