UCL Newsletter / Monthly Awards

Post by Formic »

The latest newsletter is on the OWS - http://www.afcdiamonds.com/united-count ... rs-2013-14 - complete with details of the Player and Manager of the Month for September.

The narrative for the awards makes it clear that cup games are included in the assessment. In that case I wonder how the UCL justify making their UCL Premier Team award to a manager whose team managed to beat a Step 6 club in the Vase, plus 2 wins and a draw in the league, against Mark Starmer's record in the month of knocking out two Step 5 teams in the Vase, as well as a step 5 and a step 3 club in the FA Cup.

Similarly Russ Dunkley scored 11 goals in the month, yet he's beaten by someone who managed just six !

I also note their review of the Hillier Cup headlines the Doughboys result as if we were in a different league to them - rather than one point ahead of them in the UCL Premier.

   oh dear, perhaps it was felt we received enough plaudits for last month & additional deserved awards were not required. I doubt if anyone is more embarrassed that the surprise winners.
Maybe we can have a Oct competition to find any appropriate anagrams from
UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE
Sadly no f or j so f in joke is not permissible
However the good news is the winner will be the BEST ANSWER.
Onwards & upwards after all we are still it contention for bigger dongs than monthly league awards.

Let's be better than bitter eh? Well done to the winners we're happy to go about our business unrecognised and successfully.

Not bitter just reiterating what many have said about UCL for a long time. Having spent a long time watching it & knowing many people involved in it as well as South Mids IMO it's a little behind. Perhaps you can give me just one logical argument why Starms & Dunks after the month we had did not receive said awards, one will do. And not wishing to split hairs but I do think it will be a few years before AFC R & D are able to go about their business unrecognised  Though successful I do hope so.

I don't have to pick the winners, I don't know the qualifying criteria so it's not my place to criticise others who do so most likely with the responsibility to do the job probably unpaid. The more we do dig the worse we'll be perceived. Just let them get on with it we'll be fine.

it's probably a blessing that we have avoided the dreaded 'manager of the month' curse. We would probably have gone on a losing streak until Christmas!

No you don't pick the winner. & neither do I, but we are both entitled to an opinion, & mine is what our Club did in Sept only one possible Winner for Manager of month, and as for player :?: 11 goals in a month :o and the qualifying criteria was explained by Formic. It's Noddy awards we are well above, however a win at Dover will be very special

Just makes it laughable and damages the credibility of the UCL generally, as well as of the award .............. mind you, its a bit like dodging a bullet isn't it? The dreaded award !! ;)

Starms should have won it easily, just shows its a worthless award judged by people who either have an axe to grind or are clueless........ I won't be losing any sleep over it and I'm sure Starms won't either !!
