Woody, I can understand why you don't like Gordon Brown's politics, but why do you ridicule him for his failing eyesight.
I don't think he has been a complete success as chancellor or as PM, but the fact that he is blind in one eye, and that his sight is failing in the other is sad surely, not something to berate him for, or take the pi$$ out of him for.
My main gripe with Mr Brown is his con with the economy. That con was to fuel grwth through unsustainable private borrowing, encouraging vast numbers in the population to borrow money they couldnt afford to pay back. I can remember saying 5 years ago that it would all end in tears, but few people seemed to think so. They were blinded by the glory of their house prices rocketing towards the stratosphere and their ability to buy ever bigger plasma tellies on their store credit cards!
So now Gordon's big con is over, and we can see the mess that's left for what it is. Unfortunately, I see no-one I trust to put it right, so the next election looks a bit like pot luck.
I remember the tories last time they were in power. Selling every public owned asset they could find, sometimes to line their own pockets. They conned everyone in GB into thinking that everything run by the private sector is a success, and everything run by the public sector is a disastor. You only have to look to other countries to see that this does not have to be the case ( not all state owned companies have to work like the old eastern block ) . The beauty of successful state owned companies is that they bring in much needed money to the treasury. I am not advocating wholesale nationalisation, far from it, but public ownership need not be so taboo.
I think that the irony is perhaps that Gordon Brown has learnt a thing or two while in power, and might just do a good job from here on. The fact remains that he has made a grand old mess in the past, and deserves to pay for it with losing his job. Oddly, he might be the best man to put it right ( I hope not, as he doesnt deserve the chance, and I dont think that he will get it).

Re: More STEALTH TAXES
This phrase "stealth tax" was dreamt up by the tabloid press to agitate those of the public who read the news without thinking past the headlines, it can't be much of a tax when all you have to do to avoid it is simply stick to the highway code.
Re: More STEALTH TAXES
For one, Gordon Brown is a con man. Robin Hood robbed the rich to give to the poor (we are told), Gordon ROBS everyone, because he doesn't have foresight or REAL sight. I abhor what he has done to this country and its economy. He has no panache, carisma, or personality...... but most of all NO TALENT (especially as he was never elected).PhilM2 wrote:Woody, I can understand why you don't like Gordon Brown's politics, but why do you ridicule him for his failing eyesight.

He is everything (to me) that a robber attests to, so from my point of view I alienate him furter by adding the 'one eyed' bit (my choice). As least I left out the racial sterotyping.
Darling gets his Black Eye Brows mentioned, others get called the 'poison dwarf' or another got called (Two Stomachs or Two Jags Prescott)....... When does my epithet for GB upset you so much?

I wouldnt say that it upsets me that much Woody. But having posted on the same forum as you for quite a while, I know that you have the knowledge and the wit to critcise him without resorting to refering to his physical frailties. After all, his handling of the UK economy surely provides more than enough amunition to attack him with.woody wrote:For one, Gordon Brown is a con man. I thank you for those kind words, however most BADDIES in the westerns etc.... had some added RIDER that made them seem even more WICKED!PhilM2 wrote:I wouldnt say that it upsets me that much Woody. In YOUR opinion though eh Woody? (Not saying that I disagree with you or not but it is an opinion as opposed to a statement of fact).

Re: More STEALTH TAXES
I’ve lost my faith in the current government, but hell will freeze over before I vote Tory. We’re in for some even dark times if they get in.
Going to have to think carefully on how I vote this year.

I think your comment is exactly what GB and THE DARK LORD will be hoping for...... "better the Devil you know......................."Mad Dog wrote:

It was hardly likely to be anyone elses opinion - right????    I never wrote or implied FACT!  - Apart from the fact that Gordon Brown HAS a dodgy eye, and he turns it regularly in HIS FAVOUR   :lol:Diamondsforever wrote:In YOUR opinion though eh Woody?
