FAO Everyweeker and anyone that likes a flutter...
I've had a flick through the vase odds on BetVictor and picked out the following:
Huntingdon to beat AFC Mansfield 8/15
Oadby to beat Alvechurch 11/10
Ampthill to beat Barking 4/9
Ashinngton to beat Worksop Parramore 4/9
Spalding to beat Walsall Wood 1/2
A fiver on a fivefold returns just over £50. Thoughts and any others you like the look of? Incidentally we are 6/5 but I think I will leave that alone.

Shildon are away to West Auckland and I think 5 is a bit of a high price, even if West Auckland are unbeaten in their first 15 league games. Shildon are currently top of the Northern League, although they have played 7 games more than WA.
Also like:
Runcorn @ 4 away to Whitley Bay. Runcorn top of the NWCL, WB are 17th in the NL1.
Spalding are great odds considering Walsall Wood are 15th in the MFA.
Spennymoor.
Spalding/Spennymoor double is evens and looks good IMO.

I will be having a good look tomorrow (though probably any extreme value will have disappeared by then). Will have some comments then, but should be a good round with the new teams coming in.
Just initially, not sure about Spalding at 1/2 given they haven't yet played some of the best in the UCL. Don't know anything about Walsall Wood apart from they had a good run last season, so could well be a fair price.

Some very interesting games even at this stage, I assume the Runcorn odds are like that with WB's Vase pedigree in mind, there's Larkhall against Newport Isle of Wight who are both top of their respective leagues and the Shildon/WA game can probably be classed as a bit of a clash of the titans in terms of the Vase, so plenty of tough teams going out this weekend, personally I'm hoping someone can knock Spennymoor and Spalding out for us ;)Bob's Bitch wrote:Shildon are away to West Auckland and I think 5 is a bit of a high price, even if West Auckland are unbeaten in their first 15 league games. Re: FAO Everyweeker and anyone that likes a flutter...
Some very interesting ties indeed.
Kidlington seem to me to be an absolute banker to beat Tavistock.
They are currently 2/5, but I would go as short at 1/4 if I were a bookie. Tavistock have been lucky Vase wise, a bye, followed by a 2-0 away win at the equally poor Cullompton in the 2nd qual. They did beat Winterbourne 3-2 at home in the last round, but it would be an extraordinary effort to get anything at a good Kidlington side, who are playing well enough in the Hellenic League.
Plymouth Parkway v Wantage ought to be an excellent tie, but the hosts got turned over 1-0 by Bodmin last week in a huge game for them, so will see how well they bounce back. Their 2-0 home win v Gillingham was impressive in the last round, and I would not put another success past them, but I think the odds are about right.
At 1.73, Buckland are plenty short enough against Saltash. The Ashes had a poor 2-0 home defeat against Torpoint last week, but are good enough to avoid stashing Buckland in any acca's. I'd want 3/1 about an away win though, despite the fact that the Bucks have shown an ability to lose at home to lower league opposition this season.
One other team to back is probably Bodmin. I thought that they were on the decline this year after losing players since back to back league title wins. However, despite some very poor results, these are the results in games that have 'mattered' to them - i.e. where motivation has been easy (not your Long Buckby Tuesday night away, but your Spalding-type game from our perspective):
Home v Elburton Villa W 6-0
Away v Exmouth D 0-0
Home v St. Austell W 4-1
Away v Plymouth Parkway W 1-0 (game of the season)
In the FA Cup they also stunned me by winning 4-1 away at Radstock Town (who were my NAP on that round I think!), before succumbing 3-2 at Wells City (in a game they would have hoped to earn something from).
Based on all that, I make them favourites against Bermerton Heath (midtable Wessex League), but the bookies have them at 6/4. More than good enough to have a bet. Either Saltash or St. Austell ought to have beaten Bermerton last year as well, before chucking a second half lead away - they ought to be leaving Cornwall empty handed this time.
TWO BETS:
Kidlington @ 2/5 v Tavistock (NAP)
Bodmin @ 6/4 v Bermerton Heath Harlequins

Thanks for the update Everyweeker on all games from another planet, which is of course home for you, you do know that we have some here who think you still deliberately cause ships to run aground and then pillage them :o How is The Jamaica Inn, not been in there for must be nigh on 200 years now.

You'll all be able to come and see this distant land for yourself when we draw Bodmin/Parkway/dare I say even Tavvy away in the Vase!
As much as it might upset one of our coaching staff, I guarantee a better trip than the jaunt to Ashington last year ;)

Local fare will need to be good to beat Charles Wells Bombardier at £1.90 a pint and Oh those pies
Still wouldn`t need to rush back as sure you would put us all up and show us good night out Pirate style.

Just to point out, both my selections cruised home, and my advice not to back the odds-on Buckland was fair, as they lost 3-0 AET ;)
Hope that puts my performance in the forum prediction game into perspective  :o
