Seems as though Crossy is being made the scapegoat for the dismal performance against St Andrews!

Re: New Signing
It's a real shame cause I see really rate Tom as a keeper, I thought it was the right decision in bringing him in for quincy, I'm sure people would agree, was i the only one to hold my breath everytime the ball was passed to him
I think describing his performance against St Andrews as dismal is a bit over the top, he made one costly error, and boy was it a costly one. But I think he has pretty impressive in other matches, ok don't mention Dover and Spalding ;)
Bottom line is i think it would be unfair to drop Tom immediately, and hope that if Tom is goal next week it gives him a kick up the behind a bit

Re: New Signing
Not sure that anyone is being made a scapegoat Neutral. But lots was said after the St Andrews game & after everyone had calmed down the general consensus appeared to be, some strengthening of the squad was required. This is possibly the start of that process. Mistakes by keepers always appear worse if for no other reason than the likely outcome of them, unfortunately most of those made by our 2 main keepers during the past 2 seasons have been in the big games, that aside prior to this signing our goalie situation was Crossy, a recovering Quincy a couple of promising teenagers & a right back on holiday so I'd prefer to view it as cover/competition. For me the rest of this season is for completing a strong finish to what can still be an above expectations year & forming a squad that can be genuine contenders for the league next season, which is somewhere IMO we are not far from.Neutral wrote:Seems as though Crossy is being made the scapegoat for the dismal performance against St Andrews!
Re: New Signing
CD.......you misunderstood my point. I didn't intend to refer to a dismal performance by the keeper but by the team overall. Mistakes were being made all over the pitch and indeed by the management which meant that they lost as team and not by individual errors.
Re: New Signing
Indeed. We lost by a poor team performance, not by indidual mistakes. When a striker nets what turns out to be the winner, he is the hero. When a goalkeeper howler hands the opposition what turns out to be the winner for them, he is the villain. There were 11 villains against St Andrews.
However, rating Tom and Quincy for ability at this level and the league above, Quincy would not convince me that he is a suitable replacement. So the new keeper will be considered the main competition for a place with Tom. This is surely a sign of aiming for that top spot next season.

Re: New Signing
Getting Matt Finley in as competition for Tom will only help to improve Tom's game. Since he arrived at AFC he's not had any threat to his No. 17 shirt. Tom's a 1st class keeper at this level and a bit of healthy competition can only help to improve him.
