[ Sat 1st Mar ] v Newport Pagnell Town, KO 3pm UCLP AWAY
Re: [ Sat 1st Mar ] v Newport Pagnell Town, KO 3pm UCLP AWAY
Point we'll made. Of all the wide players I have watched this season I wish we had looked after Wiz a little better. He in my opinion would have been a better option than Greg. Still what do I know I've been lambasted before for my opinion of Henderson at centre half. I guess we all think we can do a better job at managing at this level but in truth we can't.

Regarding Wizz, I think he felt his place was under threat from Nat Liburd (and look how that turned out!)
Would love to know what his thoughts were on the whole Nat situation, and would love to see him back at the club.

Personally I would always start Koriya on the basis that he's proved himself to be an exceptional player at times and although sometimes it may not seem it with 18 goals and 9 assists in 32 appearances he's made a huge contribution too. If he turns up and decides he fancies it then he'll win us the game single handedly.SouthRushdenJFC wrote:And there are just as many saying Fazel shouldn't be in the team as well, tough isn't it?
I think some of the reasons being offered up for Ling's form are futile to be honest.

He's a danger regardless of how well he's playing like Taylor and Dunks are. Koriya had a poor game by his standard on Sat but still could have had a hat-trick and certainly should have scored in the first half. With the current squad on offer he should always be in the starting line-upBartonRaz wrote:Personally I would always start Koriya on the basis that he's proved himself to be an exceptional player at times and although sometimes it may not seem it with 18 goals and 9 assists in 32 appearances he's made a huge contribution too. True, I'm slightly inclined to agree with BR on Faz, but the problem is he's turned up on so few occasions this season. I keep saying this, but again, I still haven't seen him play as well as he did at Stamford in which he looked a class above the rest, granted I did miss the 2 Sileby games in which he apparently did very well, but in the 25 or so games I have seen him in, he's been mostly poor.SouthRushdenJFC wrote:And there are just as many saying Fazel shouldn't be in the team as well, tough isn't it?
But hey, I'm not too concerned right now, its still only our 2nd season and while there are certainly players in this current team that aren't good enough to take the club forward, I'm pretty confident come August, Starms and the rest of the management team will have sorted out areas that currently need improvement and we'll have a strong squad capable of challenging for the UCL title next season.

Not sure the was any lambasting N just possibly a couple of contributors thought more highly of Henderson than you did 10 days ago, though after his very professional performance between the kicks he took at Cogenhoe, and another good showing Sat in a changed defensive line up, hopefully he's doing as you asked him to & winning you over. The Wizz issue IMO is a a confidence/self belief thing, we all know what he can do & what we feel he could have achieve for the Club, sadly I don't think he has such a high opinion of himself & is without doubt his own biggest critic. Won't go into detail as came about in a private conversation other that to say I wish he could see what we could then he may still be with us. That said again IMO he's in the Dev category as really nice lad who was there at the start & if all he wants is to play footy & enjoy himself at a club & level he's comfortable at then all the best to him. Though would be nice to see him back one day + his Dad was good company on match day.Neutral wrote:Point we'll made. Are we all of the opinion that we could do with a much better quality, left sided player, than we currently have? Perhaps we are looking too early at some faults, but, we should take a look at the bigger picture. After another 6 or 7 matches with regular starters, the team can establish the understanding of each other. we all know that some players function better when they link up with someone they prefer, but, the team has to adapt and accommodate players who are not their first choice partners. The left side is an obvious position that needs resolving with someone who is attacking, and links up well with the forwards, as well as being defensive minded when required. I have not seen many players who fit that role, in this league. Give it time and we may find that one of our current squad turns out to be that player we are looking for.

You may well be right, though it`s fair to say the left side has and may well always be an issue for many Clubs at all levels given you are selecting from 10-15%, hard to pick between what we have at present.FOOTYMAN wrote:Are we all of the opinion that we could do with a much better quality, left sided player, than we currently have? Fazal has come in for a bit of stick but he hasn`t become a bad player over the past few months, sadly he has failed to reproduce the Stamford performance but then if he played like that every week he may well not be wearing a AFC R&D shirt, not the most defensive minded player we have and not been helped by the pitches he has had to play on, though one thing he will always give you is the threat of goals.
Matt Gearing has implied in the past he likes the left & cutting back in and it has worked a few times "Northwood" but we do look more balanced with him on the right & think the stats have been previously posted, his goals and assists ratio is better.
Not sure the Greg Ling still in pre season stands up, he`s been with us nearly 4 months now. Work rate excellent, tracks back, IMO his best game was his first at Wulfrunians came on after 75 mins, slotted straight in and did a great job, including offering lots of cover to a tiring back 3. He can and will get goals but his confidence must be shot to bits at the moment, he just needs one to go in then we may get to see the best of him.
As you said give it time, 10 games left this season and the prospect of some better playing surfaces.

Did we not get a video of the match ?
It would normally be available by now.
