Re: Club statement
I personally think this topic has been massively exploded into something it don't need to be, with everyone misinterpreting what others are saying... From what was mentioned of an incident, to whether language should be banned is madness. I admit I was one of the first to comment on the language, agreeing with what had been said relevant to the topic or not. It seems it has been turned into a huge debate... Is there any such game as visual Chinese whispers??
First of all language at a football match is natural, and nobody should disagree. It would happen at the premier league games, right through to Sunday league...either on the pitch or through fans. It's normal and nobody should expect any different... Have you noticed the sky cameras muffle the sound when they show a live match and they know a bad languaged chant is coming. The sound is distorted.
Did anyone watch the Leicester v Sheffield Wednesday match Friday just gone? Half way through the second half when a Wednesday player was fouled from behind an almighty f*cking hell was heard crystal clear through the telly. It is natural and our players ain't clean mouthed either as heard many times. My point is that's normal, that's football for you!!!
I think many of the singers are thinking that the happy clappy brigade as certain people are known are hoping for a zero on tolerance on swearing and that's clearly not the case. I ain't perfect as at the cambridge city match when Jamal conceded the penalty lets just say f*ck sake Jamal came out of my mouth which was probably heard from the four corners of the ground...
I think the main debate should focus on the difference between banter and abuse, because in my opinion that's what tends to happen. For example who ate all the pies is a football chant heard up and down the country, and you would probably find many people smile at that. But to clearly overstep the mark and call a keeper a fat c bomb  as another user posted earlier, then is that not overstepping the mark? Or if the keeper takes a goal kick I have heard people shout c bomb as he kicks it. If people could just refrain from using the c bomb word then is that not half of this battle won?
I don't mind the language, just so long as it's in a banter theme...

I don't very often post on hear but totally agree with Pigman's last point and that of Corby Diamonds
As a Diamonds supporter and volunteer I was rightly sacked from my volunteer role when I gave verbal abuse using the 'F' word to the Luton Board Members. It was abuse toward individuals and not a song.
Our fans create a special atomosphere with their singing and chanting. However what we saw on Saturday was verbal abuse to an individual
I have stood on the old Oak Road terrace in the 70's and I can tell you now, that was an intimidating place to be. Not once however, did I hear the 'C' word. In fact from the many comments it is this word in particular and the way it is said to an individual is the crux of the debate. No one has condoned the incident, no one has aked for a ban on swearing and most have praised the singing. Please however think about how you would feel if you were on the other end of the verbal abuse, how would you feel if you were walking out of the ground to a chorus of the 'c' word whist with your young daughter, your mother or your gran.

Well in for a penny, in for a pound I might as well give my thruppence worth, yes I'm that old.
It seems the verbal abuse of the Goalkeeper is becoming the norm, it seems what started a litany from one person has been accepted by a few others and seems to be spreading wider within the Debanke.
It becomes normal to do the abuse the longer it goes on and those that at first thought its not right slowly find themselves joining in without thinking at times.
You can't stop swearing at Football but you can stop abuse of single people or players by stating it is unacceptable to abuse a player whether Black, Gay or even white heterosexual who just happens to wear the No 1 Jersey.
You either grab the bull by the horns and ban the personal abuse and if those who still wish to hurl the c bomb are asked to do so at a their local pub and see their faces smashed in by bloke they abused at the bar or maybe we can turn a old container into a post match room where the c bomb singer can meet the oppo goalie for a little chat after the game, the latter option may stop c bomb chants rather quicker in my opinion.

Re: Club statement
I actually agree with your point oregarding needless abuse of oppostion goalies especially if they have done nothing to provoke a reaction. I always like the applaud the keeper at the end as most have good natured banter HOWEVER in regards to fat pat he brought it on himself as he is a C-Bomb.Biggles wrote:Well in for a penny, in for a pound I might as well give my thruppence worth, yes I'm that old.

But the people that abuse him do what he wants, he wins, he wants a reaction and he got both results on Saturday. he won hands down.
He will now sit back whilst our fan base gets slated and tarred with thick black stuff , the club will be fined and the F.A will look down on us as a problem club.
The more we rise to the bait the worse it gets and more wind up merchants will start as some of our fans bite every time.
We enjoy a pint or 2 at the matches in Non League, its a pleasure but I bet pressure will be mounting from the F.A to curb this and bring all Football into line of no alcohol during all matches, I'm not saying its just us they are looking at but I bet every little incident at all games gets into the F.A black book and sooner or later the big stick will be unleashed, if all of us in Non League would just let the prats like MR Cash payment make themselves look stupid, frankly we don't have to stoop to his and people of his ilks level.

Re: Club statement
We had issues at the old club. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the conference board rules stated that no alcohol was allowed inside the ground?
Obviously we had one or two idiots tanked up, but it went mostly un-noticed as the "paid" stewards dealt with it & the old club kept it mostly out of the public domain.
I'm sure at one point a list of offenders was released, and the old club was pretty much low down on that particular list.
I'm not privy to the southern league rules regarding alcohol.

While this is all very lovely, it hasn't escaped me that we have strayed very much off point from what the original incident was and again same as time and time before the topic has pointed towards the 'singers' of our club for one reason or another!
Just an observation!

When is the draw for the FA Cup?

Ahh, but maybe that just your paranoia, thinking people are attacking the Singers.rushdenshireelite wrote:While this is all very lovely, it hasn't escaped me that we have strayed very much off point from what the original incident was and again same as time and time before the topic has pointed towards the 'singers' of our club for one reason or another!

So long as everybody (Singers and non Singers) understand the difference between banter and abuse, sometimes it seems this is becoming blurry in the modern world. well as an old fart it seems that way, I blame modern social media which at times is out of control with trolls abusing people at will.
Yes this has Topic has got off course, however its still a gauge of what people think is acceptable or not, personally even if a person is a real right plonker and gives verbal diaria does not mean they deserve abuse or a thumping, just because a person is a plonker does not mean you acting like a plonker in return, that just makes 2 plonkers.

Re: Club statement
We have two different issues here.
First off is a supporter punching an opposition manager. In my view it is not acceptable for any one to be punched at a football match. I really don't see how anyone can disagree with that, and no one has even though the lines have become blurred in this thread.
Secondly is the use of bad language. Again, in my view, some of the chants are not necessary and there is no need for them. The 'singers' are intelligent lads and could and have come up with far wittier chants than dropping the c-bomb. However, I always try to view things holistically and when you hear the sort of language that comes from players and opposition managers to the referees and their own players then I can sort of understand it, but not condone it.
