Charity collection in aid of the MRF

At Wednesday's match their will be a collection for the Meningitis Research Foundation in memory of Jayden Nel who died of meningococcal septicaemia aged three on the 7th December 2012.

Meningitis and septicemia can kill in hours and is the inflammation of the lining around the brain and spinal cord. Septicemia is the blood poisoning form of the disease. The Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) estimates that about 3,400 people get bacterial meningitis and associated septicemia in the UK each year.

With her personal experience of the disease Natalie Nel mother of Jayden became an ambassador for the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) during its national awareness week. Her knowledge and awareness means she can represent and promote the charity at a local and regional level. Natalie launched a petition in Rushden ensuring the new vaccine for Meningitis is included in the Childhood Immunisation Schedule as soon as possible.

The Meningitis Research Foundation funds research to prevent meningitis and septicemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. The Foundation promotes education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and gives support to people affected.
