According to the radio this morning it's going to be knocked down and redeveloped.

Hopefully it can be knocked down with Cousins, Helen Thompson and the Beasants inside! :twisted:Mat.H wrote:According to the radio this morning it's going to be knocked down and redeveloped.

Re: Nene Park
Did anyone else hear this? Any more information?
I am, sadly, of the view that it being knocked down is crucial for any support for a new ground in the Rushden/I'boro area for us - particularly if we want council support. Hard to explain such spending if there is a facility right up the road.

Totally agree, it would only be a good thing for us and would definitely help with gaining support/ planning for a new ground. As much as I loved Nene Park it ultimately played a large part in the death of RDFC.Everyweeker wrote:Did anyone else hear this? Any more information?

Good point, the sooner it is yanked to the ground the better in terms of our lobbying council for support to create a new ground for AFC & our local community long into the future.Everyweeker wrote: I am, sadly, of the view that it being knocked down is crucial for any support for a new ground in the Rushden/I'boro area for us - particularly if we want council support. We carry our fantastic memories from the 1992-2011 era and continue to generate new ones along the way. Have a feeling we're in for some very special moments in the next few months, both league and cup.
Re: Nene Park
The Council have said the site will be developed for 'leisure' purposes. No mention of housing etc.
It could well be that the stadium will stay but run as a venue for multi sports complex for the East Northants district as a whole, as part of a larger plan for the area..?

Re: Nene Park
Leisure use makes sense, particularly with the covenant for the stadium pitch. As for housing, absolutely no chance in that location in a flood plane situation and also it's not part of the Local Plan.
Did Peter Wilson, the owner of the Sports & Exhibition Centre, ever follow through with his plan to make internal alterations to the Centre which he sought Planning Permission for 18 months ago?

Re: Nene Park
I believe the S & Ex work is ongoing, but just on the subject of Mr Wilson he does have a small plastic pitch and 3 floodlight pylons with 8 floodlight lamps on. Might it be worth the club approaching him about this for our own use or to consider taking off his hands at a small price?Trek wrote:Leisure use makes sense, particularly with the covenant for the stadium pitch. Anyone got a link to the sources of the Nene Park info please?

IIRC that was also subject to a planning application about 18-24 months ago when he was seeking a change of use for this pitch.Three of Diamonds wrote:.....on the subject of Mr Wilson he does have a small plastic pitch and 3 floodlight pylons with 8 floodlight lamps on.
