Don't really know what to make of last night. Are Corby's U18's really that good? I didn't think we played too badly but with the opposition in mind i suppose it'll go down as a bad one. We didn't look like scoring at any stage which is a concern.
Tommy Wright was a cut above I thought, although you'd expect that from him given his background.

Agreed, great header from the lad and the surprise is that he's still only 30 and obviously now more concerned with management but could still go on playing for 5-6 years.BartonRaz wrote: Tommy Wright was a cut above I thought, although you'd expect that from him given his background.

I don't think you can read anything into pre season, I didn't after beating bedford on saturday (who then beat Huntingdon) and I won't after last night.
I thought we played well, but as you say Tommy Wright was the one piece of quality that separated the sides

Corby's side may have been a predominantly young one, but they had some talented players out there last night, some of whom I'm sure will feature for their first team this season. To answer BR's question, they have had a very good youth team for a few years now, many of whom used to be at R&DFC.
It was a very tight game, although we had a 15 minute spell before the break when we really should have taken the lead - twice through Turner and once through Dunks. Corby's goal was an excellent piece of counter attacking football, but that aside, I don't remember Finners being troubled too much.

Didn't they have first call on a number of our Under 18's including Jake Reynolds through their tie up with Raunds Manor School a year or so back? Also they had a decent U21 squad managed by Mark Peters. I wonder if any of the players on show last night have an involvement with FCV Reds?davealbon wrote: To answer BR's question, they have had a very good youth team for a few years now, many of whom used to be at R&DFC.
I also notice that they have rejoined the Northants SYL for this season.
