'This was not so much the day when the Histon dream died, as when it was finally exposed as a fantasy. How could Football League status have been thought a possibility when even part-time players were getting close to a reputed £1,000 a week while the hardcore support was never much more than the 600 or so who turned up for this game?
Now, the manager admits, it is a battle for survival. There is a nine-point cushion between them and the drop zone, but after four matches without a goal, and only one win in nine, the next victory could be as difficult to get as the signature of any of their star players on a new contract.'
Paying players upto £1,000 a week at a part time club with only a few hundred coming through the gates! I'm amazed they've managed to last as long as this without the shit hitting the fan.

Just shows what a good cup run can do i guess!
The money from the Cup run was one off and shouldn't have been committing to players contracts. Baldwin got carried away and that's why he's no longer there when the full extent of the debts was revealed to the other directors and new chairman.
Judging by this report, things are getting worse:-

Im not saying thats what they should have done, but im sure that they did use some of those monies to keep the club running for longer than would otherwise have been the case.
