A great performance and result after Saturday's disappointment, agree with the comment about Berwick he was outstanding tonight. Thought the new signing Leslie was impressive, would have liked Appleton to get more game time with him having to play the next 3 games. Be interesting what squad we have available Saturday with all the injuries and suspensions. With possibly two more injuries tonight might there be more signings? Anybody know if Quigley is injured or just unavailable?

No other team in SLC has scored more than us or conceded less.
Some real tests coming up in next few weeks though.

I'd agree with those comments about Tommy Berwick - that was by far his best game for the club. It does pose a question about our style of play though, as he was playing quite wide at times, but as long as the wide player on that side was prepared to switch infield to support Liversedge it worked quite well, even without a box-to-box central midfielder - also being helped when Tom Lorraine came on in the central midfield role and got forward more. Against better defences it might need a bit more thought though.

Full marks to the ref for letting the game go ahead, but he might lose one or two marks for some inconsistent decisions. I wouldn't complain about Leslie's card as it was a blatant pull-back, but not in the same league as the challenge on Claudio in the second half when he was breaking through the middle, which won a free-kick but no card was shown. Similarly he blew up for some innocuous challenges but let far more serious ones go.

Heard through the grapevine he likes a "few" jars of light refreshments on of a Friday. :drinks:

This could possibly have something to do with his unavailability!

So do I, but if I was playing for Diamonds it'd be something I would sacrifice in a second! or just save it for Saturday nights :joy:

To be fair if you two were playing for Diamonds the rest of us would have to be bladdered to even contemplate watching

Groundhopper Report:-

Southern League Central
AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS 7-1 LEIGHTON TOWN
Admission £8.00 Prog £2.50 CBC & C £5.20 Tea £1.00 LTFC Meat Raffle £1.00
Attendance 297

Right from when the fixtures came out in July, I'd earmarked this one as the one I'd been dreading the most for every reason under the sun - parking, programmes, crowd size in hopelessly small ground and quality of opposition. Having now got it out of the way, I must say that perhaps not all my fears were justified.

No problems with parking - very small car park in the ground (as you'd expect) only for players and officials. However, the mini-retail park with the drive-thru McDonalds has now been finished and some spaces were available there. It also helped that, anticipating a larger than average crowd, I arrived at 6-50.

No problems with the programme - plenty available and very sleek and professionally printed (though I'd expect that for £2.50), although the fixtures/results pages aren't very easy on the eye, very small and thin white type on black background. It also helped that, anticipating a larger crowd than usual, I entered the ground at 7-15.

No problems with the ground - unlike K*ttering Town's adopted home, the Dog and Duck is roomy and spacious and wouldn't look out of place at a much higher level. It also helped that, being a Champions League night and some uncertainty as to whether the game would take place, the crowd was (only slightly) lower than their other midweekers.

No problems with the food - Rushden brought their own menu with the famous Diamond Burgers on offer, though I stuck to the ordinary stuff. Only slight quibble was that drinks are served from a separate hatch, albeit in the same room.

No problems with the journey there or back - the advertised closure of the A45 was only on the Eastbound side, allowing the journey home to be completed in just over 45 minutes.

As for the game itself - well, we did manage to get on the scoresheet first courtesy of Josh Murray, but that was as good as it got, as from then on, the Diamonds erupted into a glittering and sparkling masterclass that left us completely shellshocked. Still, we did only have the bare eleven and one sub and the pitch was VERY heavy and sticky, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse. Hopefully, we may have more manpower at Godalming on Saturday, but I'd be deluding myself if I thought we can repeat the result there back in April.

An excellent performance and result. 7-1.

Berwick had a really, really good game, the rest of the team did. :clapping:

Let's bag the 3 points tomorrow, (to hopefully go top)
