Johnson really struggled in the early part of his managerial career and was sacked by both Cambridge United and the Ploppies. However, he made his name managing the Latvian national team a few years back which opened doors once again here.

I thought he did terribly with Latvia? He's won promotion from the BSP, L2, L1 and reached the Championship play-off final in 08. Can't really argue with that record.
