It's funny because a lot of the pubs and businesses in Irthlingborough may experience a hit in business when the club goes. The funny thing is investing in it, backing and hopefully leading to us going up a league helps local business as much as it does the club itself.RushdenTillIDie wrote:This is all bloody upsetting...I know it's silly in the grander scheme of things, because I want to watch football week in week out, and have a team to support, but if the majority of locals in northamtonshire don't care as much as our solid thousand strong loyal fans do...

i live and drink in irthlingborough. and i haven't heard of any business that would be sorry to hear them go.the club only brings about 48 hours business per year to Irthlingborough pubs.the loss of the 700 jobs took a lot of business.banks and supermarkets away.unfortunatly people have not yet forgiven griggs group and feel that the club cost them jobs.i know its not all down to max but trying to convince people is another matter.Mad Dog wrote:It's funny because a lot of the pubs and businesses in Irthlingborough may experience a hit in business when the club goes. I was one of those 700 you mention, and the impression is wrong. Max actually took over the tannery (Keunens / Pittards) where I worked and offered every single person there a job in his company. That company actually kept that shoe/ leather economy going for a good 5 years longer than it really should have. The leather / shoe industry was dead on its feet at the time, Max subsidised that as well for as long as he could.wasteman wrote: i live and drink in irthlingborough. and i haven't heard of any business that would be sorry to hear them go.the club only brings about 48 hours business per year to Irthlingborough pubs.the loss of the 700 jobs took a lot of business.banks and supermarkets away.unfortunatly people have not yet forgiven griggs group and feel that the club cost them jobs.i know its not all down to max but trying to convince people is another matter.
I know the Horseshoe Inn does a fair trade on a matchday with away fans, and quite a few of these fans walk up from the ground and through the High Street to get there, so passing trade is possible. I'd say your estimate of 48 hours is on the bottom end. Losing those jobs did not lose us the Natwest Bank, nor lots of supermarkets (1 actually, that had many guises) they'd been struggling for years beforehand. The population of Irthlingborough is growing, there are new housing estates being built and more planned, These are new people to the town/ area and have no / little affinity to the past.
