Thats fair enough, I completely understand that point of view, as I would say 90% of the Welsh.Scots and Irish go down the same line of saying they support anyone but England. I like to see the home nations win things, predominantly because as an Englishman, when we are not involved I tend to support the underdog :lol:

And as for the portuguese you mention, I think detest is a strong word, but I'm not entirely sure it demonstrates the strength of resentment I feel towards him :twisted:

Anyway semantics aside, Murray was clearly caught off guard sharing a joke with someone who was giving him a ribbing about the Scottish football team. You can spin it however you like but he's Scottish and I wouldn't expect him to support England as I'm sure he wouldn't expect me to support Scotland. However in the context of Tennis he represents Britain, there are no English or Scottish tennis players, only British, and given that that is an umbrella definition that covers me also, he'll get my support.

I find it odd that borders are used as an excuse not to support somebody who represents you whether you like it or not. I might start following only sports stars form Northamptonshire and from now on I will withdraw support for the following,

Steve Redgrave - Buckinghamshire Wanker
Frank Bruno - London Twat
Jonny Wilkinson - Surrey Fuckwit
David Beckham - Leytonstone Carpet Muncher
Daley Thompson - Notting Hill Nob Jockey
Freddie Flintoff - Preston Prick

and anyone else not from Northants can f*** off.

I like your thinking, but I do wonder if you are perhaps casting your net just a little too wide. You could limit your allegence to people born in Rushden. This would not include joined villages like Wimington, one has to know where to draw the line after all.

I'm already covered as far as Wymington goes as that's in Bedfordshire.

However I may need also to rule out Rushden as I'm from Higham Ferrers.
