They give players returning from injury like Parky valuable game time. A real plus was seeing Rashid Koriya perform so comfortably....he certainly aint Fazels twin (in appearance)
We will have a similar team out next week.
I don't think they contribute to a fixture backlog because as none of the "first" team play in them they are really like under 21 games. Any way we are still a long way from a fixture backlog with 7 months still to play.
Not sure how you work this one out :? it matters not what team we put out in this or the Northants Senior Cup, as cup comps they take priority, so if we had progressed and the next round had been on the day of a league fixture, the league game gets pushed back. We may not be using our first 11 but the backlog can still be created, as don`t think our squad is of the size to play 2 games on the same night.
A good run out for a few who needed it, but also highlighted some possible areas of weakness should the wrong people from the regular starters pick up injuries.
The League Cup is obviously a midweek competition, as several first round matches were played last night. It is only the Northants/ Hillier Cup that can be played on saturdays and that is also obviously not compulsory as we are playing next Tuesday.

Not quite so, many local cup games last season were on Saturdays with League fixtures cancelled because of the lack of Floodlights at a few clubs in the UCL. It is less of a problem this season with the F.A. ruling that those clubs install Floodlights.

Wisniewski and McBride i'd also consider core first team players. Dent and Gillingwater are regulars too. As I said earlier in the thread before the game on paper that's a decent side, which is why I was a little disappointed in our performance as we were totally dominated despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise. Unfortunately the midfield created absolutely nothing for Lance.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

Either way, if we were in all 4 cups whenever the next round was, Sat or Tue if a league game was due to be that day it would be postponed, by Sat the 5th Oct we will be on week 10 for the season and about to play our 5 league match. Hopefully a win on Sat coupled with a LONG run in the Vase will give us more than enough to worry about between now and May, so IMO the defeat last night was not a major problem, just a shame some of our lads who had the chance to impress didn`t and it was to them, still stand by my comments after the Sleaford/Huntingdon affair, only the Manager has any class in that Club and after a long chat with him last night, and the way some of the players carried on no change in opinion.

I would agree that those two would be in a first team squad. On paper it is a decent side but not one you would expect to beat a top 4 UCL prem side.

Agree with you there, but we should have had enough to trouble them IMO. I can only remember one shot and one header. The scoreline suggests we almost won but in truth we were thoroughly second best.

I'd have liked to see Mason Thomas get a bit longer on the pitch. He seemed to put himself about in the style of Aaron King's debut, and might have shook their makeshift defence up a bit more than we had been doing.
It was a rather lack-lustre display last night, but I think we have been rather spoilt lately.
In mitigation of last night's team:-
a). They won't have played together as an eleven before
b). Several of the team were short of recent match practice
c). Huntingdon are a decent side - they're not top of the League for nothing
d). The system of a single striker seemed to confuse the midfield players somewhat
Having said that I think a few of the more experienced players will have been disappointed at not taking the opportunity to say to Starms that they should be regulars in the first team.

Thats a bit harsh on some of the players out there last night.[/quote]
I do feel a little bad for players like Sean and Wizz who now find themselves as bench players, despite how crucial they were in last season's success, not complaining, the regulars are simply better players of course, but I do wish we could see a little more of our player of the season from last year.
