Don't hunt me down...

Post by Oundle Diamond #2 »

but I was talking to my mates about who we would support if we did go bust.

This poll isn't an assumption/speculation that we're going bust now, far from it. The talk tonight just stimulated the thought. I hope it won't ever happen (I'm an extremely nervous fan tonight and can't bring myself to talk about it) but who would you go and support if it ever did happen, not necessarily now but anytime in the future?

New RDFC. If one did not materialise, maybe Rushden & Higham.

No way in hell am I setting foot in Sixfields or the Rockinghorse in anything but the away end and only when I'm supporting my team.

1) A new RDFC. It's the club I've grown up with. I had 3 generations of players over my wall, I've been a mascot 3 times, I've played for their youth teams from the ages of 9 to 16, I have 11 shirts, I've been in every stand at Diamonds, I've been to 69 away grounds supporting us. As a 17 year old, it's too much to grow up with to throw away.

I go to other grounds a lot and what we have in Rushden in special. With a few exceptions in time, we are an exemplory set of supporters who are pleasant and a joy to be around. Losing RDFC would hurt so much, it's like a relative.

2) Corby Town. Being from Oundle, it's technically my local team, and their on the up with a nice stadium. Also, I hardly see them a rival.

3) Wherever I go to uni next year; would feel like being in a foreign country but ahh well.

Well I've always thought if we did go bust, I'd probably go and support Watford a bit more than I do now, but of course we'd set up Rushden AFC and start again in the UCL, so I'd definitely stay with the new club and I'm sure most others would be the same, wouldn't enjoy supporting a club so low down like that but think of our away attendances at every game!

Depressing thinking about it though, the club's not even 20 yet but I have worried for a few years now that the club might not last much longer

A new AFC R&D side for me, if one didn't materialise, the odd visit to Bedford Blues to watch rugby union, I'll never support another football club !!

Hmmmm, weird one for me.

There is no chance of me supporting another local Northamptonshire team as, other than through the Diamonds, I have no connection to the county. I made the youthful mistake of spontaneously supporting a random, rural British team a few years ago - there's no way I'm making the same mistake again

Even a phoenix RDFC club would almost a bridge too far for me, I think. These types of new clubs rely really heavily on the local fans and community, and there isn't much I'd be able to do. I think I'd end up feeling even more alienated than I already do.

I have a local Dublin side (St Pat's), and Norwich are my local side whilst I'm at university, so there are other (far more convenient!) options - but it wouldn't really feel the same, though.

It's hard to say at the moment. I have some great memories, and have met some nice people, through RDFC, and it would be a tragic situation if the club did die. I'll wait to see what happens before writing too emotional a post, though, though ;)

If there was a Rushden & Diamonds phoenix team, playing at NP, and in the Zamaretto Div One (the level Chester were accepted) or higher, then i'd support them.

If Diamonds had to reform in the UCL then I wouldn't go, i have mates that play at that level and couldn't bear to watch us play there. I feel that keeping Nene Park is important (As Chester kept the Deva Stadium) because it allows us to grow as a club. Wouldn't you hate to see the club stunted in it's progression by the lack of good stadium.

Some people on here that literally do know-it-all do my head in at times, but at least it shows that we have some clever people, and more importantly 'football' people. We wouldn't need one person to run a new team, if we could get a group of 10 or 15 to put their heads together and run the club correctly from the word go then we're laughing.

People like Andy Burgess (who i know from an interview with the blog) wants to manage us one day, that could be his opportunity, he could pull a kit on while he's at it! Former players could/will join us, Paul Hall anyone? We could hold open trials for players like AFC Wimbledon did, hell, I could even get us some good non-league players from my university team which I coach.

I'm sick of moving from one thing to another with this club, maybe starting again wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Failing it all, i'll go up the Cobblers ;) .

Like most on here, any reborn RDFC Club. Failing that, I'd probably follow Brighton more, but I can really ever see myself getting that into them.

Rushden & Higham FC sounds good to me.. led by Duane Darby and Paul Hall, who were rumoured to want to manage us before Justin got the role .. Defo need to keep our ground tho its the best in the area !!

An its bad enough having to step in that shit piece Rockingham Road ground once a year let alone go and support them the same goes for sixfields ... My local Library has more life in it :D :D
