Support Simon Evans
He was shaky and clearly lacking confidence, but I felt as time went on he grew in confidence as he began to make a few saves and apart from a few occaisions when he was put under pressure due to back passes, his kicking and distribution were actually better than Joe's. I don't think he was at fault for either goal.
Can everyone get behind this guy? He's only a young goalkeeper, it was his first game at this level and for quite a while. I will never accept the right of the scum to give him abuse given the circumstances that have thrust him into a starting place.
Support him and I feel we will have a decent keeper.

Re: Support Simon Evans
I'll support the lad at games but i disagree that he's going to be a decent keeper. Saw too much today to suggest that he's a little out of his depth. Kicking on the whole was fine and wouldn't blame him for the goals, but an insistance to punch everything will cost us at some point.
How old is he out of interest?
I'd be inclined to start Broadbent. He'll definitely be here next season so we may aswell blood him now when we've got nothing to lose.

If Evans is out of his depth, then Broadbent definitely will be. I think the punching was largely to do with confidence and Joe had a habit of doing it.BartonRaz wrote:I'll support the lad at games but i disagree that he's going to be a decent keeper. First game at this level, let's see how he does over the next five games.

Broadbent will definitely be out of his depth i'm not disputing that, but he is considered to be one for the future and will definitely be here next season if yesterdays Chron is to be believed, so we might aswell give him some experience now whilst the games don't matter.

I would dispute that. As you yourself said IF (and it's still IF) we get the alleged points deductions then we need to keep going for now. That aside, it's a fair point, but I would say Broadbent needs to go out to a lower level to build him up physically before throwing him in. Evans as no.2 behind Joe should be given the chance to stake his place. It would not be fair on him otherwise.BartonRaz wrote:Broadbent will definitely be out of his depth i'm not disputing that, but he is considered to be one for the future and will definitely be here next season if yesterdays Chron is to be believed, so we might aswell give him some experience now whilst the games don't matter.

the lad did all right today. A bit shaky at first and too much punching but he gained in confidence. I was almost considering him for my Man of the Match until we suddenly came to life when Nabil came on.
Re: Support Simon Evans
To throw Broadbent in now behind a shaky defence could totally destroy the lads confidence, he is too young not to be badly affected if we got hammered.

Thought Simon did ok for his first game. I didn't see any chance of him catching the ones he did punch, and none of them led to a dangerous situation so IMO they were good decisions.

He's only about 22/23 so in goalkeeper terms thats quite young.BartonRaz wrote:How old is he out of interest?

He was a bit nervy but think he could grow to be a fair keeper at this level. Also he may be on low wages which must be considered at this stage of the clubs finances
