youth set up
Excellent news about Mark being manager, without not getting to far ahead of ourselves but would a plan be in place to form a new youth structure based on the old one which mark was head of, i mean from under8sand 9s upwards to the 1st team and as it is self funding could help with some funding towards team as we had some bloody good lads and coaches that have had to look elsewhere for new clubs with most gone to kett. food for thought :?:

We would love to do that, although I imagine there is an enormous amount of work involved in doing so. Although the youth setup has funded itself in recent years, it probably took a large amount of funding to get it to that position in the first place.smiggy123 wrote:Excellent news about Mark being manager, without not getting to far ahead of ourselves but would a plan be in place to form a new youth structure based on the old one which mark was head of, i mean from under8sand 9s upwards to the 1st team and as it is self funding could help with some funding towards team as we had some bloody good lads and coaches that have had to look elsewhere for new clubs with most gone to kett. food for thought :?:
We couldn't ask for a better person to be on board if we do look to expand the youth setup though!

Re: youth set up
Where the chuff would we play these games? We haven't got Pitch 2 or Pitch 3 anymore. Not to mention the fact that the players parents were paying a lot of money to make the youth team self-funding, and as a result their players were tied to a professional club. This U18 team will be the start of something huge i'm sure, but there is no way a parent will pay a lot of money for their child to play for AFC R&D over say Wellingborough Whitworths, where they would play for £1 or £2 a week. We'd have to rent out local pitches everytime a game is played and the bills would rack up.davealbon wrote:We would love to do that, although I imagine there is an enormous amount of work involved in doing so. Once the team is up and running and the season is under way, I would make this the number 1 priority! If any one on here knows a friendly farmer or landowner in the Rushden/Irthlingborough area I would start sweet talking them to take on a 100 year lease, at a peppercorn rent, where AFC can call home. Renting from Raunds is fine to start with, but to make the club a 'going concern' it needs its own ground where it can develop its own facilities to start making money to re-invest in said facilities and the team.

I've had players move from my team to Diamonds and other pro clubs and it's not cheap for the parents, we are talking around £400, you won't get that sort of money out of them for Weetabix League games.
