Upsetting the record books on Saturday???

Post by Pigman »

Can this side of ours really do that? Saturday looks really daunting when you look at a few stats.

We've not beaten Stevenage since 27/1/01 - when Duane Darby scored a brace in our 0-2 win. Obviously we've had a few years in the Football League when we didn't lock horns, but since dropping back to the Conference in 2006 we haven't managed to get the upper hand in any of our games!!

Since then we have played Stevenage 8 times, losing 5 and drawing 3 - we've not beaten them since 2001, its 2010 now - an omen???? In those 8 games we've scored just 6 goals and let in 14 !!

Looking at Stevenage's current away form they've won 3 and lost 2, scoring just 6, but only conceding 4 - so they keep it tight at the back. They should be full of confidence and have a decent following behind them who I presume will make some noise in the Airwair to drive the team on. We've scored 8 and conceded 3 in our last 5 at home, winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1. Our record against "top half" opposition doesn't make great reading, 10 games played and we've lost half of them............but we have won 4 !!!

Its a tough one to call. Earlier in the year I thought we should have got something out of the game at Broadhall - if we'd kept 11 men on the field we might have. We're missing Tomlin who I thought would be a big influence on the games against the top sides - I guess we'll get to compare on Tuesday night against Oxford when I fully expect him to re-appear.

Stevenage, a bit like us, seem to score goals from all over the park, 17 different goalscorers this year, but Griffin and Oudbade with 11 a piece are the main threat, although Boyland, Beardsley and Bostwick have 19 goals between them.

I remain confident as we're undefeated in 6 games now, but it'll be a bruising encounter, one which Westely will be VERY keen to win. I'm going for a 1-1 draw personally and a crowd of about 1700.

I'm not feeling very confident. As you said, we haven't beat them for nearly 10 years!! I'm going for a 2-0 loss. :(
