UCL Next Season

Post by corby diamond »

Ok i will let the membership thread carry on and start this converstation as a new post... I am just after a simple answer

Barton Raz i wanted to pick up on something you have just said. This lad was not comparing AFC to Burton Park or anything. He was just asking how it is possible for a team to be entered straight into the UCL premier.

He plays for the second team of Burton, so all i am after is why can a team be put straight into the premier division, because surely like you said 300+fans compared to their 20odd dont seem fair to me...

I am in no way slagging the system off, and to be frank i will be thrilled my team will be above his reserves  but for someone who loves his football he is pretty peeved and i can see his point of view... This may be slightly off the scale but say rangers and celtic joined the english leagues then surely they would start from the bottom and not be judged by their fanbase...

I've just covered this in the other thread, but essentially as we're a pheonix club we can apply for membership at the level the FA rules allow us to. The business plan, the ground we're playing at and yes the fanbase will count towards the decision. If Man Utd went bust you wouldn't expect them to start at step 6 or below would you? We're not Man Utd but we're not Burton PW either.

The UCL has 2 reserves divisions which are ONLY for reserve sides and not first teams. When Kings Lynn went bust they were in the UCL Prem due to the fact that they had played high up in the non league pyramid, have a large following and a large playing budget. If they had been put in UCL division 1 they would have steamrolled the division. I have got a few mates that play for BPW first team and none of the squad get paid to play so obviously they cannot compete with the likes of Kings Lynn on the pitch.

Without being being arrogant, we would be of great benefit to the UCL and the clubs that are in it. We would have a similar following to Kings Lynn therefore we would boost the coffers of other clubs and would also put the UCL in the limelight. Although it may seem a tad unfair to start at a higher level, clubs wont be complaining if we are bringing a few hundred fans to their ground at £5 a pop plus bar takings & food etc.

UCL prem players... some get paid some dont. I have heard that some get a standard £25 a game where as others get £10 + a £30 win bonus. All depends on the club and how generous and ambitious the chairman is.

i am not prepared to put names here, but i was talking to a Ucl Prem manager last week and he told me that one of the star Kings Lynn players earns as much a week as he has to split between his whole squad, hopefully Kings Lynn will get promotion this season

Hopefully they wont as it'll make the league a bit more interesting if we can get in there as well ;)
We just have to live within our means and compete as best we can afford

I imagine that King's Lynn player is Jack Defty. Fat as hell but got unbelievable teckers.

King's Lynn are way behind Peterborough Northern Star at the top of the UCL but have about 5 games in hand. Long Bucky are also up there having won all their games so far.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

I'll probably get slaughtered for saying this, but I hope we are placed in UCL1. I don't care how big a previous club was, if they are no longer in existance then the new club should start at the lowest level of the system at which promotion and relegation work, around here that is step6. I'd like our new club to do things the right way, Kings Lynn for instance got a lot of negative publicity and bad feeling which is still very evident, for effectively buying a place at a higher level. I watch a lot of UCL football and it's true Burton Park don't have the facilities to play at step5 (no floodlights, although they are supposed to be installing them this season), but nearly all the other clubs do. I would think 12 or more of the 17 clubs would be acceptable for promotion if they finish in the top 2.

I think we'll be damned if we do and damned if we don't - we're not going to be able to make everyone happy, someone will be p*ssed off at us for some reason or other regardless of which league we're in.

I agree with Sid and I like the idea of starting right at the bottom but I think what should be of most concern is at what level can we be competitive quickly. It will be important for rebuilding the fan base next year and to keep the momentum of the club going in the right direction that we have a good first year. Fans aren't going to be that bothered whether they are watching football in the UCL Prem or Div 1 but they are far more likely to come back and support us if they see us doing well and making progress.

A year competing at the top of the UCL 1 would be far more beneficial than a year going nowhere in the UCL Prem. I have absolutley no idea of what we can expect to achieve - I don't even know if competing at the top of the UCL 1 is a realistic expectation. I guess we will be relying on Starms and Steve Whitney to guide us.

I will just be glad that we have a team to watch, whatever the level.
