overpaid players

Post by discodunk »

hi all,i been thinking about this for some time ,and its really begining to bug me and id like to hear your thoughts, especialy with the transfer market open ,why are they paid such silly wages, doing something they love, only AVB (chelsea boss)was on the tv this morning, moaning about too many games over the xmas period and the players were tired,TRY TELLING THAT TO SOME POOR MAN/WOMAN WHO PROBABLY WORKS 60 -80 HOURS ON A NIGHT SHIFT and struggles to pay the extortionate prices at the turn styles ,ive seen my son train on a saturday, play a game on a sunday morning(score a hat trick)for a local big club, then we have raced to his local side for the afternoon kick off (and score another hat trick) and then train monday eve, while still trying to do his shcool work. What im trying to get at is when will they ever stop and think before the bleet on about how hard done by they are ,and give some thought to the hundreds and thousands of kids /parents /small clubs that strive to hopefully give them english /homegrown tallent
MY BIGGEST ISSUE IS THE FA AND THE PFA----------WHEN YOU PLAY FOR ENGLAND YOU ARE EXPECTED TO GIVE YOUR EARNINGS TO A CHARITY

ITS ABOUT TIME THE PLAYERS WERE TOLD THEY MUST ---------"ADOPT A CLUB"-------
now this may sound silly but give it a bit of thought---------one weeks wage(could be paid in installments,im not fussy) of shalll we say an average of about £70.000 (premiership)/player

just think of what that sort of money could do for small club
how many times does the fan have to put his/her hand in his pocket to bail his/her beloved club out
with so many clubs in the financial mire surely they must step in,

sorry about the rant(and spelling mistakes  ) what are your opinions mmmmm i wonder if i could get one of those e pertition things going ,im a dinosaur and dont know how!!!!!!!

Makes a lot of sense , there is simply to much money in the top layer of football it all needs to be spread more evenly throughout the smaller clubs

and on downwards to grassroots football, where in the majority of cases players/parents pay to play.

Going by the reported wages for Wayne Rooney over the weekend half and hours pay would keep us, and many other grassroots club in business for a season.

I agree with the thoughts but what happens when Keith cousins, the besants or imraan ladak owns your football club? The money is going to magically disappear.

The OP's suggestion would never work. A bit like saying Sean Connery, Tom Cruise or some other highly paid film star should he donating part of his income to a local rep actor.

All the Barcalona players donate 1% of the wages to charity so some kind of system where players wishing to play in the Premier League could donate similar amounts into a fund that is then shared out between clubs or the like.

The problem is getting it implymented. IMO will never happen. But if Messi, Xavi and Villa can give up a few euros then ev eryone can.

There's a world of difference between donating to charities, especially Children's charities, as the Barcelona players do, and donating to a professional sports fund.

I totally agree with you. I don't ever think we will see a time where the highly paid players are forced to give something back to the game.

Maybe there is a way where players donations could go towards the development of the game but its pie in the sky.

Giving to a worthy cause is cheered by the masses but people seem to tar all footballers with the 'over paid' stance but we know close up how players struggle when the money is not coming in.

The only way it could work is if some of the Sky/ESPN/BBC/ITV money is put into a seperate fund, administered by the FA, and then distributed to football's grass roots.

The Premiership league did actually 'donate' £1million to be shared between the Conference clubs (Prem, North and South) prior to last season. It may only be a drop in the ocean for them, and once split up may have been only a drop in the ocean to the club's receiving the money, but it's certainly a start.

It would be very difficult to arrange something whereby the players had to 'invest' some of their wages back into the game, although Trek's suggestion of the TV money being drip fed down the leagues to grass roots football could be an option. Still a very unlikely one though.
