Trials for players next season....

Post by BartonRaz »

I know this is a bit far in advance and plans for this may not be set in stone. But will open trials be held AFC Wimbledon style, or will it be a bit of a closed shop with Starms (or whoever is in charge) picking players they know or players that have approached them?

From University I know a tonne of players that currently play in leagues above the UCL, or have experience of playing at those sort of levels in the recent past, and many have expressed an interest in playing for us next season. I've told them i'll let them know as and when I find out where/when trials are but in reality i'm just guessing that there will be any trials at all.

Anyone in the know able to clarify what the what will be happening?

i don't think anything has been set in stone but i would have thought it would be a good idea to have something like that.

I expect we'll only be able to run trials once this season is over as players will already be registered for clubs unless we put in a 7 day approach or something

I was really asking whether we'd hold trials rather than when, but yes I guess you'd be right in that we'd have to wait until June/July sort of time.

Good to see something has been put on the website about this. I've made the other thread a sticky.

Chief scout Raz has been on the case. Spoken to a few mates that play above UCL level (hopefully 'Mr Secretary' should have a few emails by the weekend if he hasn't already) and the response has been great. Just mentioning the name Rushden & Diamonds gets them interested.

Spread the word everyone. The more people that know about the trials the better chance we'll have of getting the best team possible next season.

It might be worth, perhaps nearer the time, having a similar thread on the members forum aswel? I know of a few lads aswel whose names I'd like to throw it the hat ;)

I don't think you should be naming people on any forum, public or otherwise. It could be construed as an illegal approach. Just make them aware of the trials procedure and leave it up to them whether they choose to attend. ;)

I dont see what the problem would be with merely suggesting players who I rate, nothing about signing them.. ;)

Agree with the first bit, but as for leaving it up to them to decide whether they're going or not, sod that, i've more or less threatened some people.

Agree with that Raz, just speak to any rated player on the quiet. It serves no purpose naming them.
Just my opinion.
