'Former Stags Directors Form New Club
Three of the four men who stepped down as Mansfield Town directors last weekend have today announced that they are forming a new club.
A statement from Steve Hymas, Darren Bland and Andy Saunders reads as follows: "Since leaving the One Call Stadium we have been inundated with offers from local clubs to join up with them.
"As football fans we wanted to stay in the game and get back to enjoying our Saturdays with our families and friends, but as Mansfield fans found it very difficult to associate with any other name.
"Therefore we had only one real option and can now reveal the worst kept secret in town that we have formally set up as AFC Mansfield and have just signed a 5 year deal to play at Forest Town. We will be known also by our nickname … “The Bulls”
"We will be joining the non-league pyramid in The Central Midlands Football League and are eager to start with the football, and also to enjoy our Saturdays once again.
"AFC Mansfield is a Community club and is not intended to be a rival of Mansfield Town Football Club which is dear in our hearts.
"We see this as an alternative for ourselves and anyone that wants to give something back to grass root football in the Mansfield.
"We are now in the process of recruiting our first manager and building our team for the coming season.
