Interesting!?
http://www.mansfieldtown.net/page/NewsD ... 22,00.html
I can only assume that we wanted the players in top condition for the big one on Saturday. Also as it is short notice i imagine there would have been fewer fans travel than normal. At least it should be warmer when we play them in April!

Re: Interesting!?
I can't help but think that this is a bad decision by the club. As I've said before I don't think it's ideal having to go to Mansfield in the penultimate week of the season possibly looking for a result. This could come back and bite us...

Yes but then again having the 2 most important games of our season(more important than Stevenage/Oxford tbh) in 4 days isn't ideal either so good decision I think, gives the players a full week to prepare and and be fully ready for Saturday's huge game. Also I wouldn't worry about playing them in the penultimate week, who knows what the situation could be by then and if we do need a result then we'll have a good chance of getting it I would have thought.

I know you like to look for negatives, and rarely attend games like this, but I see it as a sign the club is thinking of those fans who do support their team home and away. Many of those fans would have struggled to change their plans at short notice, and would have had to miss the game.

Re: Interesting!?
I wouldn't have been able to make it as I have an airport run tomorrow night.
It would also have been very difficult to arrange a coach at such short notice, plus I doubt we would have had enough to make it viable.
There would also be the very real prospect of a further late postponement, which is far less likely in mid April.

Re: Interesting!?
I would have thought that Mansfield would get a far larger crowd on an April evening with the possibility of both clubs challenging for a play-off place. No brainer in my book.

Re: Interesting!?
True, but going by their chairman's comments on Saturday, I think this was suggested to solve the short term problem of losing both their games against us and York (who would play them today if not for involvement in the FA Trophy).Trek wrote:I would have thought that Mansfield would get a far larger crowd on an April evening with the possibility of both clubs challenging for a play-off place. In the grand scheme of things it is the best decision from our side to turn it down. It's too short notice to organise a coach and wouldn't be fair on our fans to try and make arrangements to get the game with less than two days to do it in.
It would also affect our preparations for Saturday, since we would have to take the focus off temporarily to reprepare and play this game. We would be the ones having to travel, not them so would be running around sorting that out.
Looking at the fixtures, Mansfield have got Hayes & Yeading away 3pm on Saturday. We've got a local derby at noon and we're not going to want (club and fans) to disrupt the preparations for a that!
Re: Interesting!?
Having said that however, i doubt they would have done that much preparation for the scum game, as the decision would have been made early on Monday. They would still be prepared for the Mansfield game to an extent, and would only have to move derby preparation back a day or two.Mad Dog wrote: It would also affect our preparations for Saturday, since we would have to take the focus off temporarily to reprepare and play this game. However, i agree it is the right move, and the 12noon KO may also have had an affect!

Re: Interesting!?
Lets not be naive and kid ourselves, this has got absolutely nothing to do with fans' preparations. The decision to not play on Wednesday would have been considered purely on whats best for the team (and probably whats worst for Mansfield!) Stoney pretty much sums it up..
"I said last week we had lots of knocks and bruises so obviously that's a plus point of not playing Saturday and makes it a bigger gap between the Oxford match and the K*ttering one so it gives us a bit more time to regroup, get those players fit, give those players an extra couple of days rest and now focus towards Saturday."

A true outlaw finds the balance between the passion in his heart and the reason in his mind. The outcome is the balance of might and right.

Quite possibly that would have went for the team coach as well ?
